New tires but now a light

I had new 315/70/17 Nitto grappler tires installed last night on my 2019 platinum. Discount tire put in new sensors, reset my truck. I drove home, got up drove 20 miles to work and still have the light on. I didn’t swap my stock over due to $200 to swap them was cheaper to put in new ones. Any thoughts?

They have to register the new ones w/the computer. They can't just push the button to reset the light.

 

Have them rotate the tpms 180°. They installed it backwards after they rebuilt it.

 

They didn’t put my stock one in. The installed theirs for $30 each wheels. Yes, they wanted $200 to swap stock sensors into rock warriors wheels.

 

What’s going on w/ your spare? Did you upsize that too? If it’s still stock, maybe there’s an issue with it being a different pressure than your new 315’s...

 

What!?, No! They have tho fix it since they installed it and sold you as product that did not work.

It took me 7 trips to discount tire to get mine resolved. The oem was installed backwards in the new wheel when they swapped it out.

 

He told me to take it and drive it for 24 hours and it should reset itself. Here a pic from late last night after driving it home. Sorry it was dark I’ll get a better one today. Yes, the spare is still on but I’ve never had a vehicle look for the spare even on my Jeeps.

 

IIRC the factory spare doesn't have a TPMS sensor anyway.

I got new wheels and bought new tires from my local Discount Tire. At first they wanted to sell me new sensors for $60 a piece, $240 for all 4! I told him to take a hike. I can get 4 off Amazon for $40. He then agreed to swap out the originals out of the OEM wheels for free.
You need to work your tire guy more.

 

Same problem kind of on my wife's lexus, they broke the sensor ordered a new one push the button for the light and no more light, but she can no longer see the PSI read out on each tire. Everything I've read you have to register them again and you have to reset ECU.

I’m going to reset them. If it don’t work I’m going to push for a remove my oem sensors and reinstall them as they did work.

 

As mentioned above, I bet they aren't programmed to the computer. They have to scan them in and verify the serial numbers.

 

They scanned each tire then pressed the button under the dash

 

I think the button just resets the light after a pressure adjustment IIRC.

 

Yep you need to enter the serial numbers in the ecu.

 

Scanning them just reads the numbers. They still have to be input into the ECU as stated.

 

Thats exactly what they had to do to mine too when I bought new ones. I took it to the dealer to have it done

I would think discount tire either should put my stock ones back in at no charge for the inconvenience or pay the dealer to program the ecu... correct assumption?

 

The sr5 alloy, platinum, limited, trd pro tpms have different angles that is not compatible with aftermarket wheels. The only sensors that will be compatible with be the sensors from the steel wheels. It
s all based on where the placement of the valve stems are.

But Discount tire should fix it, it might take you multiple trips, but in the end, it should work.

My Discount tire peeps here even called the scanner manufacturer to make sure if they are doing to right. They thought that my '20 might have a more upgraded software that their programmer can read/reset. But it was just backwards.

 

So you think it just might be my sensors are installed backwards?

 

$200 to swap sensors? My shop did it for $5 a wheel, which is what they charged to dismount the stock tire to pull the sensor.

I agree. I should have not bought new sensors. They charged $30 per sensor. To high! But if they can’t get the light off then I’ll be returning them and having them mount my stock ones back in on their dime.

 

I'm in the same boat and that's the message I've made clear. They broke one of mine - put an aftermarket in. Doesn't work so bringing it back for an OEM - they'll re-program but I will hold them to fixing it

 

I only had 300 miles on my truck when I bought new wheels and tires from them. They fixed it, but it took 7 trips and 1 broken sensor. But they did replace it with a Toyota OEM sensor.
