Anybody lower their Tundra?

I know most talk is about lift kits, but for my use I think a lowering kit would be more useful. Mine is a daily driver and garage queen that pulls a travel trailer on vacation and/or hauls dirt bikes to a trail-head. Will never, ever, find itself blazing a new trail off-road.

At 5'10", I actually find the height of the truck to be a little annoying. It's awkward to reach anything in the bed and I'm constantly worried a coat zipper or something will scratch the paint when leaning against the side to reach into the bed (yes, I'm THAT guy). Plus the height to get into the truck is just at that awkward level where it's too high to easily slide in, but too low to use the side step. And a lower tail gate height would make getting bikes or cargo in/out a lot easier.

Anybody ever lower their Tundra? If so could you share details? Pics would be great too. I'm talking just a couple of inches, not 'slammed' or whatever the latest verbage is.

There is a member here that lowered the rear of his truck (trucks?) And he really likes the way the truck works for him, on this site I think his username is @Rex Kramer.

    Thank you for tagging me.

ddact, I used the SOS Performance kit to lower just the rear of my 2007. I also added the shorter rear shocks, Firestone air bags and the TRD anti roll bar that SOS offers. The lowering kit leveled the truck by dropping the rear 3.25" to match the factory height of the front. The bed is lower than factory and this makes access easier, it also makes it easier to see what is behind me through the rear view mirror. I added running boards... when I remember to use the them they make it easier to enter and exit. Handling is improved, and I have not lost any ground clearance. The kit can further lower the rear and there is an SOS kit to lower the front, but that's not what I wanted. Take a look at my RCSB build thread for details with images, and hit me up with any questions.

Does lowering the rear (or front/rear) affect the payload or towing capacity any?

Thanks for the info. I found SOS' web site. I may order the TR.325 kit and install it. I'll post pics if I do. Has anybody else installed a lowering kit on a 4wd Tundra DC? I'd like to see them if so. Below is the pic from SOS' site for the TR.325 kit. Looks like it might be a 2wd though.

No, but it makes sagging & squatting more likely. I added the air bag kit to mitigate those problems.

The reduction in ground clearance pictured above kept me from going any lower than I did.

    IMG_7634.jpg

However, the less ground clearance,,, the less likely anyone will steal your cats.

I wish I could find a plain, black plastic lower air dam for these trucks. The Super Duty I use for work has one and it really helps the front of the truck have a beefier stance.

I see them laying on the side of the road, it's usually the result of making contact with a squirrel at speed.

Oh yeah, I've seen those but I believe it's fiber glass. I've never damaged the plastic ones at work but if I actually paid good money for that I'd probably crack it in a matter of days and be furious.

Same, same. But, this is the first new vehicle I've ever owned. I don't care so much about the bed (Line-x + toyota bed mat), but the outside will remain scratch-less as long as possible.

My 10 year old said to me the other day: "<sigh>...Daddy....I can't wait till your truck gets old so I can drink something besides water in it." Here's a selfie of me every time he walks towards the truck with a juice/soda in hand

Once you go black you never go back.
This thread reminds me of the time at the SCORE Off-road World Championships at Riverside International Raceway in California about ‘89 or so. There was no racing at night so the liquor was flowing and the off-road crowd was rowdy. A lowered Nissan mini-truck comes driving thru the crowd of drunk off-roaders. The crowd starts chanting “raise it raise it”, then they start rocking it back and forth until the wheels start coming off the ground. Good times.

Looks good. Lowered on both ends? How much did you lower it?

Look underneath and check if the leaf spring packs are sitting on top of the axle, or hung underneath the axle.

We need to bring back the late 80’s early 90’s lowered truck craze. Fill the bed up with speakers and drive around blasting Posse on Broadway.
