@OVTune since mine is still the special case, let me ask you this... Can you flash a physical ECU with YWL22 (and my base tunes) and send the unit to swap with mine? I can then ship you my oddball ECU and then you can fill the gap with the weird one I have.

This is all assuming you have a compatible ECU to do this with, and are willing :anonymous:

I figured this would be cheaper than me paying this local dealer the $120 to "try" to flash my ECU with the correct tune.

Just putting that out there for consideration.

Also when I tried to flash the stock TRD tune you sent me, I identified with the BD tune on and again after flashing back to factory stock with the BD and the output was identical.

    Thanks

    John

    PS: happy Thanksgiving weekend everyone!

Haven’t got the tune but, base on the dyno result, the huge torque/Hp gain mid range should get the truck up to speed a lot quicker.

Yes this is possible, however ECUs are definitely not cheaper than 120 bucks.
Your dealer also will likely not be able to flash it to YWL22 either, our software uses the same communication methods as toyotas tools, if we can't, they can't for sure.

I do not test 0-60 time, as I'm not really sure that matters in a truck like this. We have dyno results, and the results of our features. The features we develop are coded by us, by hand in assembly language, and are exclusive to OVTune. We focus more on a few things:
    1. building safe, long lasting tunes
    2. Developing features that are useful for these trucks. Remember, 99% of people driving these don't go down a 1/4 mile track. But they do tow, they do drive a lot, and our transmission developments improve that. I've focused way more on improving MPG than I've focused on how quick we can get 1/4 times.
    3. Establishing communications with the community for future improvements and ensuring we can always retain our free update basis.

If you're looking for something that's going to get you down the 1/4 the fastest, that's probably not our tune. Our tune (as shown on page 1) adds power, adds torque, and adds custom features. But our shift maps, for example aren't really "track oriented"... although our DirectShift might be something that is.

In order to expedite patching updates for all ECUs, because I know some of you guys have been waiting a while (sorry, developing this stuff is actually really time consuming, and there is WAY more ECU versions that I anticipated...) The current patch work we have done and the latest S mode GearLock + Direct shift will be the final options we are making.

I have tested S mode GearLocking which works perfectly as designed, and DirectShift is working flawlessly and is freaking awesome in a supercharged truck. You can row through the gears very very quickly at full throttle with no delay.

It's going to be awesome in my NA truck too!!!

Mat, I'm still loving the transmission work you've done. Knowing how well my truck runs know, I can't imagine sticking with Toyotas stock programming. I was telling my wife just the other day, from now on I'll just buy vehicles that you are able to tune! Of course she just rolled her eyes at me...

What I can't figure out, is why Toyota needs so many ECU versions... Doesn't seem to make sense why they can't just have one ECU with only a few programs for the different models, ffv, SC, na...

I changed to the limited cluster and there were literally 5 different part numbers, same for the Auto climate control parts, apparently, Toyota makes money from making up numbers!

I can make up numbers all day who will pay me for them???

The ecu revisions are basically software updates (aside from the 18+ with more space in the ecu). Every time they make a code change, there’s a new ecu calibration. Sometimes there’s a TSB, other times it’s a change at the factory for new trucks.

toyota is good at overly complicating their ecus just for fun.

If memory serves, BMW (motorcycles) was known for fixing things down the line, but not retroactively. Not only relating to electronics but mechanicals as well.

Same. Let’s be real most of these trucks are NA gassers. There’re not track cars. But, If it matters I’m sure the trans tune alone takes some time out of the dash to 60, passing etc. I bought for drivability, the trans tune and of course throttle limits in 4wd. @OVTune I think you've got the right idea with how you replied.

I just got the ecu to support your truck, I am working on extracting the data from that ecu, I am going as fast as I can to get it done.

Also for everyone, when we have to get an ECU open it, extract that data, etc it's not a 5 minute job. Getting past all the glue in the ECU is hurdle 1, then extracting the data, then getting the tables, then preparing our code.
It's a cumbersome, but unfortunately required task in some cases like this.
