Hellwig or TRD Sway Bar

I have a 2019 SR5. Thinking about getting a Sway bar, but looking for some more info.

Reading the forums, a lot of people are saying the Hellwig is the way to go if you carrying weight or towing. I tow a 5500lbs camper once in awhile. Although, I have a WDH on it, so I'm not sure having a beefed up sway bar makes a big difference with the WDH. Am I wrong?

Also, does putting a sway bar on the truck change the way it drives other than cornering? Currently IMO the cornering is terrible. So hopefully that'll be improved. Although, I am hoping that after putting a sway bar on I won't feel every little road irregularity. Currently IMO the truck does great eating up shitty road.

I put a TRD RSB on my 19 Pro. I know, some people scoff at that, whatever. I drive 99.99999 percent of the time on pavement so I wanted to make that experience more enjoyable. It makes a huge difference in handling and cornering. Night and day, no question.
People say it comes at the sacrifice of ride quality on rough terrain. I've had mine out tearing up some logging and forest roads in the Cascade mountains and I've yet to notice enough ride quality loss that I've regretted putting it on there. So other than the cornering, I haven't really noticed a change.

 

I would have preferred the heavier Hellwig, but the thinner TRW works pretty well on my little sub 5000 pound Tundra. If I had a full size Tundra or planned to tow much, I would use the Hellwig.

 

I don’t think it matters which one you go with. Pick the cheaper one and push the buy button. Cornering is significantly improved. I have the TRD.

 

I have the Hellwig and would buy it again without a second thought.

 

I got the TRD rear sway bar and love it. Check out Bam whole sale. Got mine for $204 shipped. I think i used a promo code save5. I looked it up on line.

 

Why is that? Does it make cornering even better. It's hard to imagine double the price gives double the performance.

You can adjust the links and the placement on the sway bar which you cannot do on a TRD. Buy once cry once.

 

I’d go TRD. Cause you know you are going to want a TRD front sway bar in the same pretty red color to match the rear!!!

 

I have had this Hellwig on the back of my '02 for 16 years, it's a awesome upgrade.

 

If you drive pavement a lot and semi aggressive a sway bar will be the best money you can spend on your truck. I've got 700 lb Toytec coils so I didn't need to change the front, it's planted.

 

I bought the Hellwig because given the choice, I believe it's better suited for a full sized truck and it ain't red.

 

I can live with the Red bar on my 2007, because the rear is lowered and the bar is elevated making it hard for people to see.

 

I put the TRD on a few weeks ago. In addition to cornering, I think one of the biggest benefits is when driving on the interstate at high speeds. Whenever there is a strong side wind, the truck doesn't "sway" any more. You'll be fine with either brand in my opinion. Just pick whichever one you can get a better deal on or decide if having red under your truck bothers you. I personally like it.

 

get the trd enginered for the tundra the other is aftermarket overkill thicker isn't better but they had to make it different to market it

People probably shouldn't buy kings or any other coilovers because they're not as good as the thinner factory ones.

 

Went with the TRD. I like the red also. Easy install and it will change your truck for the better! High winds, curvy roads, left or right turns with little to no sway or roll!

Hellwig has been producing high quality rear sway bars for Toyota trucks for a very long time, I had one on my old T100... I believe the 'factory' OEM rear sway bar first appeared on the Tundra as part of the 2WD TRD Sport Package in 2003.

The correct terminology is anti-roll bar, although the term "sway bar" has been an interchangeable term used for decades. It gets a little more complicated when you tow, because "sway bar" is also used for that part on the tongue/hitch that reduces trailer sway.

An anti-roll bar works by transmitting force from the wheel that is on the outside of a cornering radius, to the inside wheel that is trying to lift up during the turn. The bigger and stiffer the anti-roll bar, the flatter the rear suspension will stay under hard cornering maneuvers. An anti-roll bar should not affect ride quality if properly engineered, but at some point, I have no doubt a heavy duty anti-roll bar will affect ride quality on uneven or irregular road surface.

My thoughts are if the truck is primarily used for a daily driver, then get the TRD. Toyota designed the bar to improve handling of the truck without changing the ride. It comes in Pretentious Red so everyone that looks under will know you are on the racing development edge.

If you tow heavy with your truck, then get the Hellwig. When towing, a rear anti-roll bar will help the truck damp and absorb the forces being input into the rear suspension through the trailer hitch. The Hellwig is 1 1/8" in diameter where the TRD is 7/8"(?) diameter. A larger diameter anti-roll bar is going to be stronger in torsion and "give" less. Based on the diameters, it probably will stiffen the ride compared to the TRD, especially in the second or third adjustment holes. If you only tow occasionally, install it in the first hole until you figure out how stiff you want it. The Hellwig only comes in Anonymous Gray; those looking under will only be impressed by the size of it...if they see it at all.

 

that red does look nice but I bought the front TRD and I personally did not like the ride yes it does keep the truck more stable on corners but the ride is more harsh in the front feels to solid. So I had the stock sway bar powder coated when they powder coated the coils I do have the rear TRD as well and that one I do like . Hellwig was little to pricey for me. And they are made down the street from where I live maybe I could have drove there and asked for better deal but I wanted that pretty RED
