Check out RPPHOBBY.COM They have free shipping on orders over $150. And they ship extremely fast. They also have different coupon codes. They are the cheapest RC hobby online store, by far.

My real tundra isn't a TRD pro, but here is my real one and my just finished Traxxas Slash. I'm open to good and bad feedback.IMG_20161223_160937830_HDR.jpg IMG_20161223_160952287_HDR.jpg IMG_20161223_161006397.jpg

Well I picked up a Stampede for my little guy for Xmas. I wanted to go with the Slash but I think the Stampede is better for him being a bit higher and having bigger wheels.

I broke the motor in today by driving it around, slowly accelerating and varying speeds. A saw a bunch of videos of guys doing it in water, it was 37° out so the motor kept cool the entire time. I saw something from Traxxas that recommended driving it over the water method.

Can't wait to see him rip around on it.

Great choice... Traxxas makes some tough products.
I used to do the water break in with my brushed motors. Keeps motor cool, brushes set completely, also washes out the carbon while running it in.
Make sure to blow it out, hose it down with contact cleaner, oil bushings.
Drive it like you stole it!

Good advice. I will do that. My plan is to pick up another Stampede, same everything, for the rest of the family to use and something to swap parts with for troubleshooting, spares, etc.

I'm thinking as he grows that truck can grow with him. Lipo battery upgrade, brushless motor upgrade, etc. Already ordering am RPM wide front bumper and maybe a wheelie bar.

I don't need anything else to spend money on....

Luckily the bumper is like $6 and the wheelie bar $12.... It all adds up though...

I had around 7k into the truck on the left with the Monster energy wrap. I put a highly modified high hp race motor in it.

I used to race my 1/5 scales at a track in San Marcos, TX made for them. It was a lot of fun! I still like my 1/8 & 1/10 scale trucks for everyday use and drivability. I had a tea as e-revo build that was absolutely insane! I have got a bunch of you tube videos of them. Here is link to one of them. It was running very lean at the time. I was still getting the new motor tuned.

I looked at the site, but if you'll notice, nothing appears when you click the link for spare parts. A friend ran a hobby shop for years that specialized in RC cars and boats. He lost count of how many people brought in off brand cars asking for parts, only to be told they didn't exist. Companies import them with the promise of parts, but never supply them. You can rest assured you will break shock towers, front arms, and dog bones (rear drive axles). Make sure they're available before you buy the car.

When you buy, you'll need four battery packs and a good charger. Make sure the charger has an automatic shutoff. When I started in RC, a beginner's charger was a pice of resistance wire with alligator clips on one end and a battery connector on the other. You set a kitchen timer for 15 minutes and unplugged it when the timer dinged. If you forgot, the battery went BANG and you bought a new one. Next, they incorporated the timer into the charger and you just turned the knob to the estimated charging time. Every now and then, the timer would stick and damage a battery. Next, current control was added and you could slow down the charge for part of the charge time. A good voltmeter would tell you when the charge "peaked." Now, good chargers sense when the pack is charged and switch to a trickle charge.

You'll need extra batteries so that the discharged pack can cool before you start charging. We used a cooler, some ice, and a tray to keep the battery dry. If it's warm against your cheek, let it cool a little longer. This applies to NiCad and NiMh batteries, the new LIPO packs have their own rules.

Thanks Randy. So I went to the hobby store and everything was sold out anyways. Luckily my wife got her a present. I'm going to do some more research on what to buy. I'm pretty sure my daughter wants one of those Traxxas Tundras anyways. :D

Great info, thanks! I know you know your stuff so sorry to bug ya but I'm looking for some advice. I just picked up an extra NiMh battery with my Traxxas Stampede. I went with a Dynamite (I think 7 cell, I will double check) that the local hobby shop worker said would last longer than the other Dynamite they had in stock.

I didn't open the packaging and I can return it. I am considering going with an OEM Traxxas brand battery as a spare instead. Just to keep it all OEM, I don't know if the Dynamite battery may burn up the brushed motor faster.

    Thanks!

If you want more power in an electric Rc then look for a brushless motor and lipo batteries. There are electric rc cars doing over 100 mph now on brushless motors and lipo batteries.

As my little guy grows, the plan is to have the truck grow with him. He will be starting in training mode on the brushed motor for now. Hopefully down the road, like a few years, if he sticks with it, he will be running a LiPo battery and brushless motor.

If he doesn't stick with it, I'll be running it with that setup for sure

Lots of great deals on Craigslist all the time for Rc stuff. Keep an eye on there if you get into the hobby.

I will for sure, I love deals! I just need to learn what to look for and understand what works with what, etc. So thankful for the internet, haha.
