I decided not to pull the door panels & mirrors at this time, but I may pull the mirrors later on when I work out a permanent solution

I replaced the painters tape this afternoon with the foil tape that HVAC techs use to seal duct work, there is not even a hint of a whistle now. I appreciate everyone's help & suggestions, and I do believe that I am done with this issue.

    that's great to hear!
The third gen Tacomas made a godawful noise, and they had a service campaign for exactly what you fixed.
Here is a video I took of mine when I had it:

    Wow, that's annoying!

Mine was a constant high pitch whistle, kind of like Tinnitus only louder.

Wanted to say THANK YOU!!!! Recently bought a 2012 Tundra. Purchased in the summer so air circulation was always on (A/C). Once I switched to air pulling from outside, the whistling noise was incessant and maddening (anything over 40mph, or windy)! Took forever to determine it was coming from inside the truck. Couldn't figure it out though. Tried every thing I could think of and about gave up, thinking about how I would have to sell this truck. Found your post. Did the same thing. FIXED!!! So happy today.

    Outstanding, and you are welcome!

I still get the slightest whistle from time to time, it's almost undetectable but it is there. I will remove the interior door panels when warmer weather returns so I can seal off the remaining holes, and replace the worn drivers side arm rest.
