Question about sound deadening....

Is that from one layer and only where needed, or you went extra?

I cut the dynamat sheets into quarters to get the pieces into the door panel and still manageable. Used 1.75 sheets inside the door and 1.5 sheets on the interior face.

 

40 should be enough. I used less than 50 and did all four doors on a 17 DC along with the entire back wall and about half way under the back seats. Still have a couple sheets left.

 

I want to sound dampen the interior of my truck, 4 doors, the roof and ...? What else would I work on?

How much do the raw materials roughly cost, and how many hours of labor are we talking rough estimate?

A local stereo shop told me that might run me $2,000 at their place. Ouch, that seems a bit much...

 

At that point you might as well do the floor pan too

I've decided to line-x the bottom of my truck for sound and corrosion resistance too. Very pleased with my bed liner, and the undercoating is only $350.

 

You are looking at $50 to $150 for approximately 35 to 50 sq ft. All this will depend on the brand you buy. To do the floor, roof, all 4 doors and back wall you will probably need 3 boxes. All this will depend on how vigorous you are with it. Time of install will depend on the way you do it. Gutting the interior would probably take 2 to 3 hours then double that for reassemble. Then your install time, again on how vigorous you are. I would plan to spend a whole day for full install of material.

 

You doing it yourself or having it done. Not very difficult to apply the sound deadening

 

I found a local shop with a good reputation to do all 4 doors for $600. I'll start there, see how it goes.

My truck has the upgraded JBL system and mine works very good, loud, good sound, but the doors rattle and shake with the bass.

 

Ok, got the doors stuffed for a bit less than $600. My truck is the 2016 platinum with the upgraded JBL system, top of the line.

After the doors, the sound is perfect.

The guys at the stereo shop, locally owned, told me I'd be wasting money changing the system or doing upgrades. Nice to hear, and very honest of them.

Good to hear you've got it sounding how you want it. Any pictures of where they applied the deadening?

I believe the speakers in the JBL systems are good since Oem+ retains the JBL speakers in their package and just adds a crossover to mellow out the bass in the door speakers and replace the sub for some extra thump.

 

Ok, just checked, they used Dynamat, charged me $250 for materials, 3 hrs labor at $270. Sorry, no pics.

That JBL system seems to be criticized here a fair amount, but mine sounds great. I wonder if some folks perhaps have a broken non working component. I'm really into music too, so...

That shop did such a good honest job, I might very well get the floor and roof of the car done as well. In the next month or two I'm also going to linex the underside of my car. Should have a very quiet and solid interior after all of that.

 

Not telling anyone how to do this. Just trying to help save you some cash.

It seems to me that folks are using too much material on the doors and just over all.
Noico and Killmat etc. They Are sound deadening material.
You don't need to cover the whole door. Just a few peaces on the inside of the door and the outer shell. Just needs to stop reverberation.
If you covered the whole door you wasted money. (I am ready for )

You need to use MLV to muffle sound travel.

I used 36 sqft for all my door interiors and outer

 

I somehow used 55sf on my doors. I tore my arms up reaching thru the holes to do the exterior door skin as much as possible

Those doors are really sharp though. I sliced my wrists a few times really deep. Like scary deep!

 

All normal wear gloves and long sleeves to do this job. Tundra doors are super sharp inside

 

I was wearing gloves and welding sleeves when I did it.

 

I no longer have my Tundra and now drive a lexus gx 460. Did the same treatment on all walls and doors. The doors are not even sharp in a lexus. Its like they clean up the cuts in Japan better then in USA
