What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

2". This is what the ICON's come set to. I haven't adjusted them as it looks good and my CVs are still at a decent angle.

 

I forgot to measure before I installed my lift. But I think I gained 2.5-3 inches with the toytec boss CO's.

Billie 5100s with 2nd gen taco Ome springs is what I plan on running

 

Replaced my inner and outer tie rods this morning. Everything went pretty smooth. Ironically the inners were way worse that the outers so maybe the PO replaced the outers recently. I did have about 2-3ounces of fluid that’s was in the passenger side boot which makes me a bit nervous.
Just finished the alignment and they only messed with the toe a bit. Otherwise good.

the bad news about today is that it sounds like I gotta replace the starter on my wife’s X3....again!

 

Probably still more fun than the air canister emmisions deal under the intake. Got rid of my wife's x3 right after that.

 

Easy job or pretty entailed? And what exactly made you want to change them; asking for a friend

 

Fluid in the boot is a failed seal on the rack.. keep an eye on the boot,as long as it doesn’t tear and let water in it will stay a small leak for a while

 

Honestly pretty simple. Inner tie rod tool rental helped remove the old ones, but wouldn’t fit over the new ones for some reason. Took me maybe 1.5-2hours total time. 3/10 wrenches difficulty. Had some blown boots on the outers and figured with 200K miles I would replace the inners as well for preventative maintenance since I was gonna get an alignment anyways.

Yep. Old boot wasn’t ripped but I put a new one on cause I had them anyways. No shudder or steering issues but I guess a new rack is in the future

 

Hers is a 2008 so not sure. Still sucks to remove the intake manifold to get to a freaking starter. And the starter is maybe 2yrs old but I can’t find a receipt or repair note from myself to find where I bought it. Regardless it’s gotta be pulled and swapped. Just about a 3-4hr job to get It done though and I don’t want to spend my weekend doing it

 

Billys 5100 on mine set at one up from stock height. Still looks like the original OEM height before the 5100’s were installed. I like that.

 

At the lowest setting and the ome springs I should be around 2” lift. I’m hoping.

 

Both my boots have been torn for years. Last year I swirled the tears so they face downwards and slightly rearwards so water doesn’t blow in and pool up in there. I cleaned the gelatinous build up out of there and used zip ties to fasten the boots back. So far so good! Fluid level checks often just in case, though.

 

What spring rate?

Interesting. Let us know how they perform. My toytecs are 650 and I know they had a 700 option as well

 

You might get more than that. That's about what I ended up with the 885 coils on my DC.

 

We shall see. If anything it’ll just speed up my purchase of leafs/aal

 

Sold my ‘97 7.3 Powerstroke and came back to Toyota. Needs changed and I missed my ‘03 and ‘13 Tundra’s so I merged the two and found a mint ‘06 DC.

Now to get all my 4.7 knowledge back...

I just got rid of an X3 this week. Nice car with minimal problems but man, the second you mention it people just see $$$

 

I ended up at just over 3" of lift with the OME coils on an access cab. Do you have aftermarket UCA's? Everyone said I wouldn't ned them, but the alignment shop was only able to get 0 caster.

Depending on the condition of your rear springs an aal may not be enough. I did the Toytec progressive 3 leaf aal and left the overload leaf in, and my front was still half an inch higher than the rear. I did get 2.5 inches of lift out of the aal, but that was measuring from before install and I'm sure it was sagged pretty badly. After the lift, my front is 24 inches from the center of the hub and the rear is 23.5

In hindsight I wish I had just bought the deaver leaf pack. In extra hindsight, I wish I had bought new UCA's, new rear leafs and high angle cv boots from CVJ reman.

 

But didn't @empty_lord say the 885s he's using are made for a Tacoma? So they may be shorter but same spring rate or same size but different spring rate, I would think. I don't know. But considering toytec recommends the 700# coils on the DC, I can't imagine one riding on 590# coils

 

Reg cab is about the same weight as a taco. Hence the desire to use taco springs.

 

My first set of coils on my suspension were from a 2nd gen raptor and they were about 550lb. Obviously a little soft haha. My lower shock mount is a little further out on the arm than the stock which does help run a little lower rate too.

 

I think they are longer than the stock coils but I could be wrong. It rides well but it also had worn out Monroe quick struts when I bought it. I don't think there's any way you could use anything but the lowest perch on the 5100s.

 

Cue ‘Price is Right’ trombone failure theme: Ba ba ba bahhhhmmmm eennnnnrrrr.

Set up and got all the prep work right. Worked on the center bolt and got it loose. Went over to the two pass side ‘D’ bracket nuts. Hall and Oates No Can Do, uh uh. Breaker bar was about to bust. Needs impact.

Went over to drivers side nut and she budged a bit. Went back to now PB’d pass side and still seized. Said screw it. Tightened everything back up. Cleaned up. Test drove her to make sure nothing got messed up like the front diff actuator which is right in the way of the center top bolt. Everything works.

Guess I’ll wait to install bushings till either a new steering rack is needed or when I have my mechanic put in new rear leafs or a combo of both. Something to be said about having a truck lifted up on a rack versus laying and rolling around on the ground fighting stuff. Suspension work sucks.

My harbor freight electric 120v impact had saved my a$$ a few times. Might be worth looking into.

 

If you would’ve hit it with PB last night instead of taking pictures of your old torque wrench, you could’ve unscrewed it with your pretty little fingers.

 

That and I wasted time picking my nose and butt this morning. Think I’ll go polish my spark plugs now to make myself feel better. Hahahaa

This is only round one. I never give up. Re-grouping and may run a flank attack on this thing. Or, maybe not.

 

PB blast sucks. I've never had any success with it. Buy Kroil!!
