I live in Utah and wheel spacers are not allowed but adapters are fine. Does BORA or Spidertrax have adapters? I honestly don’t know the difference...

What are ‘adapters’? :notsure: I’ve never heard of this either.

Adapters are just spacers that run a different lug pattern on the male/female sides.

They are identical parts. I run gen 2 tundra 5 lug “adapters” then :p

Someone periodically checking the torque on their spacers is a safer motorist than 90% of cars that are never checked...

Well this says it pretty clearly..
    “Wheel spacers are prohibited.”
    http://www.liftlaws.com/utah_lift_laws.htm

Aside from that most wheel spacer manufacturers claim “offroad use only.”

What kind of inspections do you have for registration? Do you think a cop is going to check your truck for wheel spacers if you get pulled over? What’s the penalty if a cop did notice you had wheel spacers?

Here in Texas we have to do a safety inspection yearly before we can pay the yearly illegal tax in order to drive on the public roadways.
If wheel spacers were illegal here, it would be during that inspection that your vehicle would get checked for wheel spacers (among all the other crap). People would simply remove them before going the safety inspection and put them on afterward. And if a cop found them during a traffic stop it would be a fix it ticket and some arbitrary amount for court fees.

Safety inspections are actually not required anymore in Utah as of about 2 years ago. I don’t think I cop would, but I’d rather be law abiding than worry about it.

There’s a lot of things people don’t really need like some who get trucks just because they want them.

Sometimes laws are just stupid. This sounds like one of those instances. There's basically no difference between a an adapter and a spacer except an adapter changes the lug pattern. Bora and Spidertrax are the 2 most trusted spacers. But you can just get new wheels with a different offset and avoid using spacers.

By different offset, do you mean width of the wheel? Does that cause less mpg because there’s now more rubber/surface space on the road?

Different wheels wont change mpg. I chose spacers because I really like the trd offroad wheels but I wanted them to sit flush with fenders instead of sunk in

Ha! You’d think. Because I didn’t want to cut the bed and cage, I have both. -12mm wheels in the front to clear all the LT, 2” BORA spacers in back to (somewhat) even out the width of back behind the front.

That was a bit of a joke my man, and may be a possible way to 'say you have spacers'

Adapters and spacers are the same, except the lugs on the wheel side are a different pattern. Tundras being 5x150

    Best of luck

No, not different width wheel. Where in the sectional width of the wheel the wheel actually mounts to the hub. Or, the distance from the hub is another way to think of it. From the middle of the wheel section, the distance, either in (toward the truck) or out, the wheel mates to the hub

Theres some confusion here. All wheel adapters are spacers but not all spacers are wheel adapters.

    These are a wheel spacers.

Wheel adapters can be used to mount different lug patterns, however they can also be used as spacers with the same lug pattern as you currently have.

The spacer shown above is where the laws are typically concerned since you may not get enough thread engagement with the spacer mounted.

Spacers IMO are a bad plan, adapters are fine as long as they're installed properly.

I don't know, too many variables. But, there is a thread on the subject as it's the most asked question on the forum.
