I am looking to purchase my first Truck, I do not really have a lot of money to get one with though,
I like the 2nd gens look more but the one I'm looking at has a lot of miles (235k) its a Limited 5.7L 4X4 looks in decent shape cosmetically the bed has a couple of rust holes but the actual frame seems decent,
the 2000 SR5 V8 Extended Cab has way less miles 102K, a little rust on the frame but not bad for its age, it has a plastic bed cover on I'm not sure if its rusting away under there or not

    both are 8,000 dollars

my dad has one of both, I've driven both and I like both but the 2007 body looks so good

They’re both bomb proof. I’d probably go for the first gen myself.

Like your dad, I have one of each and love both of them. After making sure they are mechanically sound, my suggestion is to choose the one that fits your lifestyle and driving habits best... choose the one that comes closest to fitting you like a custom tailored suit.

and they hold there value 8k for a 20 year old trucks a lot, if I could find one near me that's a 2004 5 or 6 with like 180k and 4wd and the same price I would be happy

I would highly suggest really looking into the rust issues of each and determining how bad it really is before making any decision.

I've had both. The 2nd gen is the better deal.

They get the same mpg, but you can actually tow with 2nd gen and you don't have to worry about the shitty transmission on the 1st gen.

The miles on the 2nd gen don't scare me at all.

The 2000 may need a timing belt. If not already replaced, a somewhat costly maintenance item

The million mile trucks are 2nd Gens. Personally i like the cab size of the 2nds. Check out the rust and go from there. I also had to accept cosmetic imperfections for my price range. And dont be afraid to take your time! I got my crewmax for the same price as a double cab i was looking at just by not being in a rush.
