I loved my ARB's as well for years until the first time I had to pull the front because the infamous inner seal went out, then the rear went out, then the rear again all about a year to 18 months apart

 

It would be ideal for the ARB to have a external line with fittings welded to the upper part of the housing assembly. Putting it on the rear of the ring gear is asking for trouble if not installed properly.

 

As far as I know nobody makes an LSD for the front diff of gen 2/3 Tundras.
I have an Auburn LSD in the rear of my truck now but will switch to an e-locker if/when it wears out. I don't have onboard air (just use

Viair 400p for airing up) and don't plan on getting it so the decision is easy for me.
That being said I think the ARB air locker and Eaton e-locker both have their advantages so it comes down to what best suits your particular setup and needs.

 

Did you install the Auburn your self?

 

I did not. I let the experts at ProGear do the install. Did 4:88 gears at the same time.

 

ARB does not mandate Dino oil - and the newer seals should not be affected.. i would say a bad install.

I run 90w in the front and 140w in the rear. I wonder if I should just run 140w in both...

Turns out there is one in in Stockton Ca. too and I got a quote from them today for the rear ELocker.

$2,300 for one?..... wow... Umm no... I'll stick with ARB's (i have them in my other trucks and only had to pull one for a internal seal leak)

 

That was delivered to me on a pallet. lol
1300.00 for the front but if I bought them both they'd knock 400.00 off the total.

I've had great luck with ARB's, think I'll stick with them.

 

Somebody is making some $$$ off that sale. They know it is all the buzz now so these "distributors" will try to get what they can while they can

 

I won't be installing gears until March when my contract ends (work) so I have a little time for them to hit the shelves. These guys are on crack though, lol

 

Bing… boosting an old thread. About a year ago on the Rubicon my compressor started cycling every 10 seconds and got progressively worse. This year in Colorado it finally let loose and wouldn’t engage anymore and stayed on. After further investigation and numerous emails to ARB warranty they sent out the seals and housing, although neglecting to send the inner seal.

I pulled the 3rd member and shit myself when I air tested the line. It was the inner seal ‍ I put everything back together because I had to drive home. ARB got the inner seal out to me in a few days and now I’m waiting on the gear oil and diff spreader to show up before I rebuild it.

ARB is being kinda cheap about the whole thing and I thought just maybe they’d help out with some extra cost I’m incurring. Nah, they’re not. I’d be pretty pissed if I couldn’t do the work myself because I could easily drop 1-2k at a shop for the repair.

And the guy who said compressors don’t work at elevation is all bs… I recently travelled over 500miles off-road in Colorado, and most areas were over 11k asl. Zero issues airing up and zero issues using my front locker.

My air compressor tends to give me shit at high elevation but had no problems on the Rubicon.

 

question, is anyone using a diff spreader when rebuilding the rear air locker? ARB recommends using one to achieve the correct pre-load. If so I’ll just fab something up.

 

I didn't use one when I replaced the rear locker seals.

My ARB locker looks similar to yours. I ordered the usual seals before disassembly. It looked very cooked so I took it completely apart to clean it, and I found that the spider gears had worn out and the shaft had hung up at one point I spoke with a ARB and they stated that my locker was not locking up, and my wheel was spinning, which causes high friction and the spider gears, and this was not covered by warranty.. I didn’t wanna argue with them, but I did not know that my locker was not working. I figured it out after breaking three axles in the front! I just replaced it with a brand new locker.

 

You need to wheel with me at the Rubicon next year!

Early in this thread someone stated additives in synthetic oil and LSD can harm the seals. Only issue I’m aware of is GL - 5 gears oils which are required in hypoid differentials are not used in most synchromesh transmissions because the chemicals used to provide the extreme pressure protection can be corrosive to synchronizers, which are commonly made of brass or bronze.
