Ok so I'm in Mickey D's with my two nephews getting them a bite to eat. Cashier tells me the total is 15.78. I give him 20.78. Little dude looks at me like I just gave him a freaking AP calculus exam. I tell him to give me a fiver back, continues to give me the "deer in headlights" look with an idiotic "uhhhhh" sound. I literally have to explain the math to this mook. He calls his manager and asks him "so...I give him five dollars back, right?" Manager gets the bright idea to put on pussy gloves with this moron and tells him to punch in the numbers in the register and "don't worry about the math, let the register do it for you. You're doing a good job"

At this point, I'm oblivious and say out loud "you know what? Screw this shit" I take my money back and walk out, but not without asking "hey, how'd you like a $15 dollar minimum wage?" He says "I think they're gonna do that soon" I reply "yeah, I'd start looking for another job then. Dumbasses like you are gonna be the first to go"

Sure as hell wasnt gonna get some grub, much less let my nephews eat there after calling them out. Idiots like that handling my food, nope. Probably get stuck on the conundrum of mayo first or spit first?

Seriously? How in the holy hell can a 17-20 year old NOT know how to do SIMPLE MATH???? BOTH my nephews (7 and 10) can do that in their heads!! Pathetic!!

One thing I learned as a fast food aficionado is that once they punch in the number into the cashier, you cannot change it. I've had $19.05, I hand him $20. He punches it in. I say hold on, I have a nickel. He says I already punched it in. He gives me $0.95 back. I hand it straight back to him and hand him the nickel and say can I have a dollar. That motherfucker still couldn't do it in his head... he starts counting the change!

 

Oh bud, if I touched on the pussification of America, My post would've been three times longer!

I'm gonna do my part with my future kids. Teach my daughter the kind of man they should marry and my sons the kind of man they should be by the only way you can. As a living example.

Whichever sex they are, they gonna drive a damn tundra too! LOL

 

The main problem is, that the dipshit manager told him to punch in the numbers and let it do the math for him. That's the problem with this generation of kids. They don't have to do shit for themselves. It pisses me off as well.

I was out Christmas shopping last week with the wife in an Abercrombie and Fitch. We purchased a jacket and the total was so many dollars and 51 cents. My wife asked me if I had a penny, so I checked and found I had a quarter, three dimes and a penny = .56 cents. I handed her the change and watch the young Zoolander count out the change ... 25, 35 ah 51. I shook my head and told my wife just get the receipt and lets go.

 

We had this on a bumper sticker on the intake gate at old CDF (central detention facility) downtown San Diego! Can't count how many times I used this line at work..

 

Yeah CDF "THE PIT" It closed down in 97' ...Old School County Whoopins daily...It was 60 years old...now theres a new jail across the street SDCJ...IT AINT THE SAME..Anyway I broke into the SDSO in 94 retired in 14...20 years 4 months..officer involved shooting ended my career early. Went to the Panther & Charger game a couple of weeks ago Yes the Panthers won . Anyway, went to a vender to buy a couple of beers, $6.75 ea, young kid who was unable to stand straight up was unable to make change for $20 without a calculator

 

It's even worse because we live in the greatest age in regards to information. If you don't understand how your teacher is teaching it, you can go on YouTube and find 20 other people teaching differently.

I went to a Sonic near me. At the drive up I asked for a combo #2. The idiot on the other end said "2?" I said "yes, 2". I got to the window and handed a $20. The idiot says I owe another 78 cents. I say, "Isn't your math off?" Idiot says " You did order two".......... I give up. He did speak English which was a plus. Still made no difference in the outcome.

 

Common Core is the problem here.

 

That's the second problem in this country.

 

I think the problem was there before. Common Core absolutely made it worse. My older children went through school system without the common core curriculum. But they did rely on calculators. So in math classes, they learned how to punch numbers on a calculator instead of learning how to calculate. I forced my children to do the calculations without calculator. But homework problems are often purposely made so that you have to use a calculator. With the common core (which my younger ones have to endure), we now know what it is like to have a bunch of politicians to get together and try to 'improve' math education. I have not met a single math teacher that likes this new BS. Here is how you solve a simple algebraic equation now.

 

I can do the maths in my head, and I can work a calculator; and I can sort the algebra that @chphilo posted, at least the numbers but the pictures mess me up. I can't operate a cash register to save my life though. I deliver flowers during really busy times for some girl friends who own a flower shop. I so much as stand next to the register for too long and they all come running toward me yelling "Nonononono!" like a puppy peeing on the carpet.

 

Lol. Touché. I usually don't buy their stuff. They annoy me enough getting stuck behind their buggies every weekend on my way to the beach haha

 

Damn, is that stupid, or what?!? All those steps when you could just move the "-2" to the right side of the equation and have 3x=6 and be done with it? The tiles are asinine, but even the math on the left side is moronic!
I knew it was bad, but being almost 70, I don't have any young kids exposed to this crap, so didn't realize how ludicrous it was.
