Some bad winds brought a tree down on my truck :(
The body shop says they have to replace the whole quarter panel ($5,000). I’m wondering if there’s a way to cut out the damaged area and put in a panel that opens up to a tool box or storage bin. Does anyone know if there’s an aftermarket item like that?

That's a bummer for sure. A few years back i had a tree fall on mine almost in the exact same place, the only thing you can do to keep your sanity is to be grateful it didn't hit the cab. :) I don't think anything is available right now for what you describe, but i did post this vid a few weeks ago about some built in boxes that i loved, so who knows what could be available in the near future. Good luck.

Anything can be built with time and money.

But for 5000 just get a new bed off a front wrecked truck

If it's a 2018 Tundra hopefully you have full I insurance coverage. Im sure it's a nice truck. I would have it repaired correctly, that's what you pay for insurance for.

Yes, I do have full coverage (minus the $1thousand deductible).
I was surprised to find out that homeowner’s doesn’t cover when a tree falls on my vehicle :(

In the future, you might want to talk to your insurance guy about gong to a $500 deductible. I did and was shocked to learn the annual premium difference was less than $20.

Ah man ya that deductible is tough.

I inquired "what if" about similar situations with my homeowners insurance and they told me that anything with a VIN number must have its own policy and is not covered by homeowners insurance. (i.e fire or theft of my motorcycles from my garage.)

    Welcome from NY.

Sorry to hear/see this. Have you tried a junk yard? Don't know where your from but there are plenty of front end wrecks in the northeast that you can get a bed from. Good luck.

The local junkyard found a bed from a wreck, but counting labor it’ll probably cost about the same as having the damaged one fixed.
Btw: I did find something similar to my idea of cutting out the quarter panel and integrating a tool box into it. Dodge has what they call a Ram box. Excellent idea, just too bad it’s on a Ram and not on a Tundra.
