I disagree with most of what is said here except for lighting. It's dark all the way around. Air bags are not a huge deal for me but a locker is. As for fuel economy, it's not my concern when buying a full size truck. I'll take dependability over mpg any day. Did I mention my buddy's new ecodiesel overheated the other day because it ate all it's coolant? That things been in the shop more than he's had it so please don't compare the two.

Love my Tundra but it’s an old platform and it shows. I’ve always liked trucks so I don’t mind the harsher ride and less refined interior. But I will be quite tempted by the new gen 4 if it addresses the crash test results along with fuel economy. Green or not, with modern technology, I’ll bet the engineers can easily put out a more efficient 5.7 motor. I love the idea of reaching in to the LC bin for the 8 speed transmission, the AWD system and the better technology (bigger screen and such). I hope they hit it out of the park!

During my work career I was one of those bean counters. At the Fortune 200 companies I worked for, we provided senior management in the C suites (almost always Engineers with MBAs) with information on forecasted costs, and other financial forecasts based on theoretical scenarios. They would then make decisions based in part on the information we would provide. Never once did I tell them what to do.

I believe one of the great things about the Tundra is the simplicity. I was talking to a friend that went to the GMC dealership and he stated the new tailgate option is 5k. 5k! I would much rather use that 5k to deck out my Tundra with the options I want. Keep in mind, many of those options from the other Big 3 are in the shop for those options or are on a huge recall list to get them corrected. As for the body design, has anyone else noticed that the other Big 3 Companies are trying to copy the style of the Tundra?

An updated interior with storage is not too much to ask. Surprised no one mentioned the sub par speaker system. Never understood why the Tacoma had power outlets in the bed but not the tundra.

How about decent paint job and clear coat. Maybe a frame and box that doesn’t rust in half. That’s a decent start.

Actually the cow/Bison chip idea might be overkill. Not sure if anyone else here is old enough to remember a very famous engineer that went by the name Dr. Emmett Brown. He was from Hill Valley California, home to one of the most famous clock towers in the country FWIW. But I digress. In the mid 1950s, this Dr. Brown actually invented a device called the “flux capacitor” or “FC” for short (probably one of the first real patented inventions from what would later become known as “Silicon Valley”). A lot of the technologies we take for granted today were actually developed in Hill Valley CA, before Silicon Valley swallowed it up. The FC originally required plutonium to operate. IIRC it had to create 1.21 gigawatts to power work. Later, in the 1980s, his assistant (McFly or something like that) reported to scientific outlets and wrote in some tech magazines like Popular Mechanics that Dr. Brown had figured out a way to repurpose organic and inorganic compounds (garbage really) to run the thing. I’m not sure what ever became of the technology though. Thinking the military might have adopted the FC patents and shut the program down; or at the very least silenced any public dissemination of more recent developments. There are a multitude of conspiracy theories out there. If anyone is interested, there is an original documentary about these guys and I believe a second and a third were later released to a much smaller audience. Anyway, to the engineers working on the 4th gen, it might worth a watch. It’d be great even if the flux capacitor were just an option, I think a lot of us would be happy to pay a few bucks extra to check that box. Imagine it would have to be port installed tho.

I like to see what they're going to do with the frame keep it as is, or tweak a little or,, or box it ? If they box the frame all that crap about how good and why the tritech frame is great, they'll have to eat their words about it !

    Dear Derek,

I read your letter and have to say you put a lot of thought into it.
I love the ideas and I am sure that would be the perfect truck.

Hind site as they say is 20/20 and we look at these issues all the time and have come to the conclusion that we don't sell enough of these to give a flying fuck and people still pay top dollar for the ones we do make.

I doubt this letter was read by the guy it was addressed to, much less anyone within the guy's sphere of influence. But let's say it did get to the Tundra's designer. You figure he sat there thinking "Golly, I never thought of any of this stuff?".

This ^^^^, and here is why....

I agree with the eco-minded, from an angle of production; (1) Toyota probably lasts the duration of (3-4) Chevys. MPG could go down to 10 average on the Tundra and still beat the footprint of a Silverado, and I do not want ANY "design" ideas from GM thanks. Currently, the "US made" production of a Tundra is 65% in USA, please make that higher. Let's Keep America Rolling :oldglory: with jobs and MORE people who can afford to buy your trucks until we're sick of seeing so damn many TRD PROs on America's roads. :D

In the true off-road world the LandCruiser is arguably still the most sought after vehicle on the planet, or modeled after it by other R&D teams. Toyota, please just stick with where you have been going, the rest of the pack will follow as usual. 'taco has it, throw in the rear locker please.

I have never in my 30 years on this earth ever heard a Canadian who did not hail from Newfoundland say "aboot". In fact, I'm convinced most stereotypes about Canuck speech patterns are based on Newfies. Newfies are to Canada what southern redneck hillbillies are to America. LOL.

That said, I am guilty of ending many sentences with "eh"
