Recommend P-Rated A/T Tires

I had the LT wildpeaks on my Tacoma and they were noisy.

 

Only a couple times thus far. They did pretty well in what I had. I got them after most of the snow last year. I’ll have more experience this year.

 

I've owned the P rated Toyo at2 and they were as quiet as stock, absolutely silent. Did very well in the light snow and ice we get in the mountains around me. Pulled a lot of people out of the snow banks on Frazier mtn wearing those tires. The E rated extremes on the other hand are howlers.

 

I surmise you are talking about a different tire and a different truck. You sure the noise wasn't coming from the Tacoma? Vehicle wise, it's like comparing a '56 Studebaker Sky Hawk to a '56 Corvette, with the Tundra being the Corvette.

 

No, It was the Falken Wildpeaks on my 2015 Tacoma. They were very noisy compared to the stock tires. My be different on the Tundra , but didnt like them on the Tacoma. They were great for off road at my hunting lease but highway nah.

 

I've heard third hand that the LT doesn't match the ride of the P version, being a much harder ride. Using Trumpian logic, the LT is much louder and uses this noise to mask the noise coming from its nuclear centrifuges.

Okay, I'm a teeny bit biased.

 

They were good in the wet for me...but no snow here in Gawwwwwga. They rate good for snow by users on Tirerack though...

Im at a toss up between these and the Dynapro AT2's. Cant decide. PRice is only $20 a tire different.

 

If winter weather traction is a big deal on an AT for you, check out Geolander AT G015s as well...great tire for the price as well.

Question now is size and whether P rated or LT. I dont do much off roading , mostly towing 6500lb camper. I have stock wheels and currently run 275/65r/18's. Would like to go a little bigger but same rims.

 

In your case it depends on how much towing you are doing...if you are towing frequently (and/or long distances), it would be LT all the way...a couple times a year (and/ or short distances) then P it would be...

 

I tow about 60 miles every other weekend spring - fall and twice a year I tow about 250 miles for a week vacation.

 

How was the wet grip?

 

was always a bfg or cooper fan until I came across firestone mt2 ride quality and tread is unbelievable.

 

I live in SoCal the only wet I drive through is runoff from the carwash. Jokes aside, I haven't noticed any slippage in the rain. Your driving habits may vary.

 

I went with p rated Wildpeaks, from Kevlar Wranglers. I can notice the difference in ride and only went through 3 tanks of gas. Seem quiet to me, will see how mileage goes and whether they last.On a 5.7L tundra 265 70 18.

 

The UTQG rating is 540 AA on the Kumho vs 660 AB on the Hankook. I'd go with the 660.

 

Ok settled on the Cooper Discoverer RTX in LT 275/70/18. NTB has a special going all 4 tires , alignment, life rotation and road hazard. $784 installed.

 

yeah but that means the tread wears faster on the kumho, but it withstands heat better.

what the rating system doesn’t take into account is tread depth. So how long the ride lasts isn’t equated. Instead, I look at treadlife warranty. That says a lot.


Edit: I’m wrong about the treadlife rating, but my comment about heat still stands.
