Just spoke with Keith at Dirty Deeds and I was originally planning on getting a TRD replacement system for my 2020 tundra platinum, but he talked me out of it. He explained that without also installing the long tube header manifold, I wouldn’t see any difference in torque and horsepower compared to just doing the standard system. Kind of surprising since the trd replacement is more money and he talked me out of it. So I can tell he genuinely wants his customers to just be happy and get the best performance with their purchase. Now I’m just trying to decide between getting the 8” stainless standard system and the 6”. It’s hard to tell from videos. The 6” just seems a little more raspy while the 8” seems a little deeper and throaty. Has anyone had experience with both of these and can tell me which sounds better? The jbl system is garbage so if I can hear the 6” too much in the cab, I don’t wanna have to turn up the volume even more as it’s already hard to hear with windows cracked. But is the 8” too quiet that I won’t hear it? I’m just kinda being picky before I dish out the money and don’t wanna be disappointed getting the 8 and thinking it’s too quiet or getting the 6 and thinking it’s too loud

I have had both, and also had the JBL stereo. For me the 6 was too loud and raspy. The 8 is plenty loud, and had a great tone to it. I actually think I would like the 10 now that I have had the 8 for a few months. Its not overly loud in the cab but its noticeable when you hit the gas hard, or even cruising down the highway and I have a lot of sound deadening. If I lived near him I would probably trade my 8 for a 10, or see if he would make me a 9, he has been known to custom build 7s for people. I would recommend the 8" over the 6 for sure, unless you're really into loud exhausts, the 8 is plenty loud and sounds mean and bad ass. I hope this helps.

I have the 8 inch for 2 yrs now and dont regret it what so ever. I was looking for the TRD sound as well so I went with the 8 inch. If you dont like it Keith will take it back in exchange I'm pretty sure

it does help a lot. Thank you. Did you replace the jbl system in yours? I’ve only had the truck for 3 weeks but that system is just a total pile of garbage. Toyota should be ashamed to sell that in such an expensive truck and label it as premium.

With resonator installed on highway cruising at 70 to 75 sounds super close to stock but without drone is noticeable at about 60 mph

Yeah I pieced together a decent system. The OEM JBL is a joke. I got Used kenwood 9902s headunit, maestro RR with TO2 harness, JL amp, and speakers from @james@tech12volts
I did it on the cheap but for a little more James at tech12volts will hook you up.

I really don't think you'll regret getting the 8, like I said even the 10 would be fine for me. If I towed or had long commutes I would trade for a 10.

yeah I’m gonna keep the resonator off for a few weeks and see if the drone bugs me and if not I’m gonna leave it off. Still debating going with the full 304 stainless system. It adds $200 to the system but I live in the snow belt in Ohio and god knows what they put on the roads here.

Shipping is soooooo expensive, i already went from 6 to 8. Another change is just too much, thanks for the offer though.

I'd say go on the quieter side. For me too loud isn't tolerable but I could deal w it being a little quiet. I have the 8" and it's plenty loud. If I buy one again it would be 10 or 12. The 8" sounds awesome and definitely draws some attention

yeah I emailed James and he said the modules aren’t ready for the 2020 yet so I’m kinda just waiting around. But I’m for sure replacing that system.

We should meet up between. I can bring deer jerky, you can bring maple syrup. It would be a hell of a time.

If you don't get stainless you will be very very sorry. He does paint every system he makes but unless I lived in Arizona or new Mexico or similar, I would get stainless 100%. And for me the resonator is a must, it kills the drone perfectly without hurting the overall sound, time, or performance.

he also said they have a 304 stainless option which adds $200 to the cost but I’m not sure if it’s worth it since the system is warrantied for life that it won’t rot out anyway.

I’m definitely going stainless. I’m just saying he has another option. The stainless on the website is stainless where some parts are 304 some are 409 and the hangers and flanges are regular steel. The upgrade makes everything 304 stainless. Takes 30 more days for delivery and is an extra $200

He's a cool dude, very knowledgeable and interesting to talk to isnt he? I recommend him to anyone who asks about exhausts. I don't think there is anyone better out there.

I won't be towing anything, so I'm not considering the 10, just worried about the 8 being "too" quiet. I like to hear the sound most of the time, except at highway speeds. Really hard to tell the difference listening to videos between the 8 and 6. Still cant decide lol. Need to make a decision fast though because of the sale going on.

You will hear the 8 100% of the time. It doesn't ever disappear, at cruising speeds it does quiet down a bit, but probably not without the resonator. Its really not much quieter than the 6, just a deeper tone.

@phogallen @Pudge @Rica25 I ended up ordering the standard stainless steel 8" system. Can't beat the price with $75 off, free shipping and no taxes lol. I'll update once I receive the system and get it installed. I also purchased the Diamondback Cover HD so if I don't ever reply back just know my fiance killed me lol.

I have the 8" in SS and I have no regrets. I did put the resonator on first then took it off trying to fit a 35" spare under there and I like it without the resonator.

I went with the 10" and I haven't installed the resonator yet. It's nice and quiet unless you don't want it to be. I imagine the 8 will just never disappear. You'll love it.

I haven’t seen one bad thing about the 6 8 or 10. I tried my best to hear the difference between the 6 and 8 and to me the 8 just sounded much better and deeper.

I've have had the 8 on for about two weeks now without the resonator. It really sounds great. The videos do not come close to hearing it in person. The drone is very noticeable around 60 mph at 1500 rpms. Stock quiet, no drone at 70-75 mph. I'll probably add the resonator this weekend.

I am extremely pleased with my purchase. Can't say enough about it.

I kinda had the same experience.
I couldn't decide between an 6 and an 8, had Keith make me a custom 7 inch.
Ran it for about 3 years and age 57 decided is was a tad too loud.
Several months ago Keith let me swap it for a 10 inch and I'm very happy with it.
A touch of drone from 1.5K to about 2K RPM, but none above that.
I've got a tad less drone with the 10 than the 7 had, but the 7 wasn't too bad.

I have the Helmholtz installed, not much to installing it.
Sounds great, fairly quiet putting around town, but pleasantly powerful if I give it some gas.
I also have the floor and back wall sound deadened.

If one wanted something to sound like the TRD, I'd go for an 8, 6 is fairly loud and raspy.
10 is quieter than the TRD and that is what I'm happy with.

The videos of people reving up these mufflers are worthless.
You can really only appreciate the sound when driving around.
I can't go under a bridge or overpass without tapping the pedal to hear the muffler.
I also ALWAYS remote start my truck just to hear the muffler on startup.
