Hi guys or gals or what ever you identify as.
I recently replaced my k37 leafs with i96 leafs. I have only used the truck a total of 3 days out in the dirt scene the change. I dont have any problems driving around town but when in the desert whoops I am breaking drive shaft flange yoke.
My first thought was to much travel for stock drive shaft with super charger. So had a custom driveshaft built.
But out this weekend in barstow for the powder puff off road race. Truck got drove hard all day chasing race cars. But then going slow to awards sat night thru big whoops broke flange again.
I am using total chaos shackles. All the stock mounting locations . The only thing I had to do diffrent is move the axel 1.5 inches forward to clear 40 gallon fuel tank. When the flange yoke breaks so are the centering pins for leaf springs.
I have been told that is is because of a pinion angle problem. Checked and fixed. When I replaced the drive shaft.
Also have been told that it is the angle the springs are on due to stock mounting locations.
That the shackles are in wrong.
And last but not least that it is because the axel can not be moved forward do to changing angles.
Anyone with any expertise in this field or that is running i96 springs has had this problem or just wants to give your 2 cents I would greatly appreciate.
Also I have been pulling the 50 amp fuse to turn off traction control and abs.
If you have pictures of your leaf spring set up please include them

Too much droop, are you strapped for down travel???

Also by moving the axle forward, you in turn on droop increase the pinion angle. What are your ride height, dropp and compressed pinion angles.

That would be a place to start

Let me know how else i can help.

Also what shocks are you running? bed cage?

also , when was the last time you checked ubolts.. if the axle is rotating then it could cause extreme pinion angles as well. sounds like tons of axle wrap is cause the leaf pins to break... sounds like there is a few issues at hand

Yeah we talked about this a little before but OP didnt mention that he moved the axle forward. You cant do that. The leafs have a specific centering point and pinion angle. If he needs to move his axle he needs to move the frame pivots for the leafs. Then shorten the driveshaft.

OP, your breaking the drive shaft because the geometry is all screwed up.

Put the axle back onto the center pin that deaver specc'd. Set the pinion angle to deaver spec. Then, move both leaf pivots forward 4" and shorten your drive shaft

I am not strapped. I called deaver after I broke the first flange. Not sure who I spoke to but they said it did not need to be strapped. I dont remember the exact numbers but at ride height pinion angle was 4 degrees positive (up.)
I am running 3.0 king triple bypass with 18 inch stroke.
    In bed cage.
Replaced all u bolts less than 100 miles since replacing.
Thank you for the reply I am thinking that I will need to change the cage around around fuel cell to accommodate the axel being in stock location.
Change pinon angle so it is close to level at full bump and strap it
I was told to strap it at around 17"

Thanks for the reply again guys.
So sounds like this is going to be my plan.
Move cage around fuel cell so axel can go back in stock location.
If I do that do I need to change the leaf pivot location still?
Leaf pivot location? Is that the front where springs mount up?

YOU ABSOLUTELY need to strap it... and it varies on where depending but yes about 17" of full travel, from droop to stuff. and you need to put the axle back in stock location, and get pinion angle fixed. my pinion angle at ride height was 89 degrees. But every truck is different.

if you move it back to stock location, no leave the front hanger alone.

Maybe 1 day I will be able to make it to 1 of your events and repay all the help with something ice cold and refreshing
