I have a plastic bed liner that was in truck when I purchased thinking of having it removed and having a sprayed in liner done I really only haul waterfowl decoys and dog boxes is it really worth doing concerned that water will stay under plastic bed liner and rust out truck bed

If you’re in an area where they spread salt on the roads I would do a spray in

At first I thought I would rather have the plastic. Mine was 4 yrs old when I bought it with the factory coating. It was a little marred up. I spent $20 and a couple of hours cleaning it then used some die/restoration goop made for spray on liners and damn if I didn't go buy a bed mat because it looks like new again.

Go spray in and don't look back. Also our beds rot from the underside in the corners, mount bolts, and right behind the rear arches. Spray it down to protect it.

Save your money and keep your plastic bed-liner by removing/reinstalling it to wash out the bed. As someone above alluded, the rust comes up from the bottom/under chassis of bed where the cross members collect salts/moisture and bubble up from underneath.

The plastic bed-liner will trap debris, but as long as your drain holes are unclogged and you clean it out periodically you should be good to go.

Fluid Film works ok but washes off in a few months time. Its easier to just spray PB Penetrating from underneath as it will get into all those bed cross members nooks/crannies that FF can’t. Follow up with Moly-b lith grease rubbing and that will last almost forever. Works on frames, too.

Yes, FF does come off. Especially on forward facing surfaces. They do have lanolin gel products commonly used in heavy marine applications. I would recommend this on the front of a-arms, front of rear axle, any forward facing surface really. It's typically brushed on and is thick. It takes a beating. Do the rest of the vehicle with the regular spray stuff.

'Preciate both of these tips ... putting it on my 'to do' list. Thanks:thumbsup:

P.S. This information should be on a thread all of its own.

FF has about 6 different types of products that serve their specific purpose IIRC. A marine version, as you suggested, was one of them.

I never realized this until a deeper study on FF. The typical auto store stuff we discuss here is probably their lightest industrial product and it goes up in price from there.

Thank you. You can check out my non-build ‘Build’ page for a look at the plunger applicator and grease I used for the box framed areas, as well as how I treated my Bed Liner situation.

I can definitely confirm FF doesn’t “wash off in a couple of months”

I Fluid Filmed my truck last fall and it went through a brutal Vermont winter. There was still a good coating when I sprayed over it 2 weeks ago. It definitely lasts longer than a few months.
