So the dealer I purchased my 2013 Tundra off in June has let me know they want my truck back. I owe just under 20000. They haven’t offered me anything specific, except saying they’d put me in a new one. My plan is to offer this: They wipe the debt, take the truck, and I walk out with a 2020 Tundra 5.7, I don’t care if it’s an SR5 or Limited, whatever. However I will only finance about 32,000 interest free. It would keep my payment the same but add a year. The one I want lists for 41000, their price was 37500. If they want to give me that truck for 32000, I’m in. Otherwise they can kiss my Italian ass if they think I’m going to pay anymore. What do you guys think? If they give me the deal, should I take it? I really love Buellah, but that really is a good deal.

Sure. If they accept that offer and you can swing financially, go for it. But will you have $ to do mods afterwards?

Good luck! Thinking that is a lot to expect on the 2013 trade-in.

Yes I would, but I don’t really care much for mods. Other than wheels and rubber. I live in Maine and the winters are rough on vehicles here.

thank you, and I agree it is a lot. Too much honestly, but that’s what it’ll take to get me out of Buellah!

I'll wait for the redesign one. I don't want to drive a brand new old truck.

Only adding a year of payments? That can mean a lot of things. How much is your monthly?

Payment is 351. I imagine they want someone in the truck with a higher interest rate. Mine is 4.9. They could get a schmuck in that with at least 11-12.

My local dealer keeps sending me letters stating they want my 2008 Taco, 2013 Taco, 2016 Tundra, and 2018 Tundra back.
    Don’t get your hopes up.

My salesman emailed me, but yeah I’m not really expecting anything. I basically thought if they want to screw themselves on a new truck to put someone in mine with a higher interest rate, I’d do it. I don’t think they will.

I think every year after I bought my 2016 Tacoma I’ve gotten a call or email from my dealer. I went in last year to try and trade it in for a tundra. They wanted to give me way below blue book and offered me a 7 year loan on a tundra. No thanks!

Its basically a form letter dealers send out to get you into the show-room. They hope to chew you down on the trade-in and up on the new one. Nothing new here.

No they “want” to sell you a new truck. They don’t need or want your truck back.

I find it hard to believe they are going to put you from a 2013 to a brand new truck for $4200 bucks...

I agree. I didn’t say that’s what they’re offering. I said that’s what I’d want to part with Buellah. I don’t think they’d do it but no harm in finding out.

Go for it, but they will pull the same move on you in a couple years. You will have car payments forever.

That is simply a form letter / cold call list they have from past sales and service. They don’t want your truck, they want you to come in to the showroom so they can try to:
    1. Hose you on your trade in,
    2. Hose you on upselling you into a different truck than the ONE advertised special that will have already been sold,
    3. Hose you on your interest rate for as long as possible,
    4. Hose you on a combination of #’s 1-3.

Keep your truck, and pay it off. Then you’ll be in a much better position for when the new redesigned Tundra comes out in a couple years.

Yup. X3. Dealer are criminal business enterprises. Your only defense is to be prepared. So that said ...... if you seek to go forward get the VIN of the truck you're interested----BEFORE you announce your interest. Photos of it too. Otherwise there's a Fo Sho chance they will bait-and-switch on you.

    What's wrong with a 2013???

They don't want it back. They use it as an excuse to get the owner back so that they can sell a new truck.
The good thing about it is that you are in the driver seat, so to speak, in this situation since you don't really have to make the deal. If it is a good deal, take it, if not good enough you walk. It is not like you absolutely have to get a new vehicle and just have to take what they offer.

That time of year. Two of my daughters called me this week saying they got emails saying their vehicles were in high demand and they will offer top dollar.
I’m sure everyone is looking for a 2011 xterra with 130k miles.

Oh there is nothing wrong with Buellah. I love her. When I hear a love song on the radio I think about my truck! I was just saying what it would take to get me into a new one and I highly doubt they would accept my terms. You guys are all very informative, I appreciate all the input!
