    Hi All,

I recently installed a cat back carven exhaust system on my ‘17 Tundra. Love how it sounds but it left me wanting a bit more, namely removing the rear 2 cats.

I looked around on forums and really couldn’t find that much info on this mod, esp on 3rd gens.

Firstly, will the CEL go on after removal? From what I understand no, since the o2 sensor location after the first set of cats but would like the confirm.

Secondly, will the low end torque be vastly different with the a single pipe set up? (From what I’ve read most people go with the TRD pipe)

Thanks for help in advance and if this has already been asked please feel free to delete the post.

OP you’ll get more traffic if you “bump” this thread late morning on a weekday, when there’s more “traffic” on the forum.

Have you checked local laws first regarding the requirement of Cat's? I would double check that first before busting out the sawzall :sawzall:

    Thanks for the tip!

Ahaha very true. I’m pretty sure (but may be completely wrong) that it’s a federal law to tinker with the cats. If that’s not a federal law it is definitely a state law here in jersey. However, for the simplicity sake can we consider this post for educational/potentially off road use only.

Yeah rereading, I should have said state laws.

I'm not 100% (i've only had my Tundra for 2 weeks lol) but if the O2 sensors are after the cats, then I'd highly assume the CEL would kick on and make the engine run lean. I could be wrong though.

I don’t have any cats and only got a CEL when one of my sensors went bad soon after deletion. You shouldn’t have a light pop

I looked at the exhaust pipe and it seems the o2 sensor is located between the front and rear cats, which would make sense for no CEL, but, wasn’t quite sure if there any Toyota ingenuity getting readings post rear cat.

Really that’s interesting are you running a sim or are you running headers With the o2 sensors a little further from the actually exhaust gases?

I have two kitties: grey kat and orange kat. I cannot condone the deletion of either: they are delightful. Almost as delightful as Delightful Peeeeeeeg.
