Aftermarket Exhaust

Looking for an upgrade dual exhaust for my 2017 Tundra Limited 5.7. I prefer a deep, lower muscle car base sound. Any suggestions?

I really enjoyed my aFe dual exhaust. I now have the TRD dual, which is nice when accelerating, but quite when just cruising... which some prefer, but my aFe was always offering a nice rumble throughout.

I like my Corsa. Has a unique sound compared to most of the others.

Only downside is it’s developed an annoying rattle in the muffler at low rpm. They’re replace muffler under lifetime warranty but still.

I’ve also never really been a fan of Flowmaster products but the Outlaw systems sound pretty badass.

Contacted my Toyota Dealer today where I purchased my Tundra. $1275.00 stainless steel installed for the TRD dual performance.

 

Maybe Carven Exhaust? I got mine out installed on the second day I got my truck and liked it since then. Had it on my Tacoma and now on my tundra

Another vote for the trd exhaust.
Not too much drone and pretty quiet when bopping around town, but you know it's there when you step on it.

 

You can do the install yourself. It took me an hour and a half.

 

I had the TRD duals and then switched to BAmufflers from @dirtydeeds when I upgraded to LT headers. For the cost of the TRD setup I would go BAmufflers.all.day.long

My Magnaflow Flowmaster 3" side exhaust makes an incredible sound. A very primal, deep growl.

 

I love my TRD exhaust. It's exactly the sound and design I was looking for and you can't go wrong with it. @dirtydeeds offers a good product as well and top notch customer service. I've spoken with Keith before and he is straight up legit. To me, these are the two options to go with.

 

Is that a kit or custom install?

 

I didn't install it, but I'm pretty sure it's custom.

 

Over the last month since owning my new Tundra:
1. I tried the Carven cat back. It sounds amazing!! But I couldn’t handle it while cruising on the interstate. I’ll miss it!!
2. I tried a Borla welded in place of my stock muffler, and used the stock tail pipe. It was lacking that V8 sound. I was bored. But it also had a terrible drone I couldn’t handle. What’s the point?
3. Now I’m rocking the TRD Pro full dual exhaust with black tips. This exhaust has that V8 sound I want when I step on the gas. When I’m cruising, it’s soothing. This was well worth the price.

I’m able to swap an entire system in 45 minutes on my gravel driveway. Today I installed the TRD Pro during a heavy rain storm. I live in the mountains near Seattle, so I can’t wait for nice weather. I just put a plastic sheet and a moving blanket under the truck.
So, If you’re bored with the stock chambered muffler that is quite effective at completely silencing the exhaust note, but you’re not wanting to scare little kids and piss off neighbors, then I highly recommend the TRD Pro.
If you want to be enthralled with the most incredible exhaust sound you’ve ever heard, and you want to see people crap their pants when you step on the gas in a tunnel, then go with the Carven.
If you don’t want to hear anything amazing, but enjoy that 2000 RPM
drone that gives people migraines, then get the Borla. I’ll be keeping the TRD Pro!!

Is the TRD Pro exhaust the same as the TRD dual exhaust?

 

Yes. Same item. I thought it was called TRD Pro. But I guess it’s just the TRD dual exhaust that comes stock on the TRD PRO Tundra.

 

When I had the biggest Magnaflow muffler welded in place of my stock muffler, I couldn't believe the drone. I've never had that happen to me on any other truck before. The TRD exhaust is perfect for these trucks if you want some growl but nothing too loud.

True. Looks very similar. I cut up my stock system and couldn’t wait. Otherwise, I might have tried to save a little and gone with yours.

I would definitely say the TRD exhaust needs an X pipe. The pipe on the left bank is twice as long as the right back with four additional bends. An X pipe would balance this a bit. Your thoughts?

 

I have run the gamut with the TRD exhaust.

At 6K miles, I added an H pipe
About a month later, I added Keith's tailpipe resonators with H pipe
Just recently at 11K miles, I removed the H pipe to make it true dual again, but kept the resonators

H pipe alone: Added some low end torque. Made the exhaust smoother and quieter, but I felt it made it drone, because even though the tone was deep, it was slighter higher pitched compared to true duals (IMO).

H pipe with resonators: Damn near stock sounding (just slightly deeper tone than stock). Even quieter than stock on the highway.

True duals with tailpipe resonators: Lost a little bit of low end torque (not a problem for me because I don't tow or live in a mountainous area), but for me the sound is perfect. It has the signature throaty, burble of the TRD exhaust, but most of the sound stays outside. Just enough comes inside to hear it, but not overpower the interior. On the highway, it is dead quiet. Even the pulsating "chopper" sound in 6th gear at low speeds is barely audible - I just know it's there (from experience).

I just ordered resonator block off plates from Keith, because I want to see what the TRD exhaust sounds like after 11K miles. Plus, I'll have the option to switch between louder and quiet very easily since the resonators and block off plates are just clamped down.
