Hey there, just wanted to see if anyone had advice on my situation. Just noticed this defect in the paint yesterday. It’s lower on the panel next to the rear door. Looks like a defect in the clear coat and possibly the base coat application as well. Bought the truck about 1 month ago but didn’t notice it until now when the light hit it just right. When you run your hand over it you can definitely feel the edges of the clear coat and a texture difference. I’m worried about the base coat not having the protection it needs. I contacted the dealership and am waiting for them to get back to me. Hoping they will take care of it since it’s obviously not something I did. Has anyone else had this issue and how did you deal with it? Any recommendations? Thanks

Lol apologies if the photo isn’t clear. Those are actually reflections of trees. The imperfection I’m referring to is just above the middle tree. I’ll try to post another photo later that better shows it

Yep, finesse. But if the op can't do it, take it back to the dealer. At the plant there is an area called the paint hospital after the production line just in case an ouchee happened before it's ready for prime time. In and out if a few. Robots make mistakes

Here’s a few more photos from different angles. Hope that helps. As always, taking photos of a shiny surface is an art form (that I haven’t acquired). I thought about buffing it out, but the texture difference makes me concerned there isn’t much clear coat to begin with. Some areas actually feels rougher than the adjacent clear coat

If you got a good dealer, they will fix it, but I would ask a detail guy opinion first, see what’s going on. If it’s a coverup, or over spray on clear coat. If it’s clear coat you could wet sand it and buff it out.

Great suggestion. Still waiting for the dealer to call me back. Trying to get all the info I can in case they try to jerk me around. Thanks!

FWIW it would have not passed final inspection out of the paint shop or the back door.

I’m maybe leaning towards “bad touch up job.” There was actually another Tundra on the same lot I purchased mine, brand new, that I passed over because it already had several chips in the paint and a chip in one of the headlights! Also they said that on my truck the passenger side rear bumper had “shipment damage” that required the panel to be repainted by their body shop. Had to sign a notice about that. This mark wasn’t disclosed and given where it is I’m not surprised we didn’t notice it until now.

I’ve never seen a paint blemish like this before. I’m trying to figure out what in the process of manufacturing, shipment, and sitting on the lot could have led to this so I’m informed when I take it into the dealership.

Looks like the paint nozzle had a shart. I washed my truck today and found some orange peal. Kind of surprised with the quality misses. It’s not super noticeable, so trying to decide if I want to make a big deal about it. I really don’t want to be w/o my truck for a week.

Looks like a type paint gun through out a blob of junk. Is the truck brand new?
Maybe its had damage and that's part of a shops repair and not a factory defect?
Any chance there was a ceramic coating on?
I have q coating on my truck that is failing and looks kinda like. Also ceramic that is put on too heavy and not leveled out correctly.

I don’t like it. And I think 7.62 (who we are lucky to have on this forum) nailed it: that truck would not have passed QC coming out of the factory. I think that is a bad repair from a dealership.

Hopefully they take care of you but since you signed a notice about them repairing and repainting that panel and accepting it they may tell you to pound sand. I would find that notice and see what it says for certain.
