Funny, just found this the other day. Did not see a big use for it but one day it may come in handy.......

The arm rest / pad on top of console slides forward about 4 inches or so if desired.

 

How?

 

Just act like you’re about to open the console but instead of lifting up, slide it forwards. You can’t open the console when it’s slid forward though.

 

must be a 2nd gen thing

 

That's a really cool feature. I wonder if my truck does this. I'll check later though

 

Don't they all do that? My wife 14' Camry does it too.

 

I thought is was the earlier 2nd gens that had this feature. I don't know if the newer ones do this.

 

My 2008 sure had this.

 

I think my 2016 SEQUOIA does this.

 

The last year Toyota offered it in Tundras was 2010. Then they took it away for 2011 along with lights on the door, power plug that stays one for two hours after you turn the truck off, among others.

 

My wife’s Sequoia does it, but neither of my Tundras do.

I almost shit myself when I figured this out today.

 

Use it all the time on mine. It does cover the small cup holder when slid forward, but I like it for my long arms.

 

I’ve played with that lid, wondering wtf I was missing for almost 2 years now. I thought it opened some way for storage; as my 2010 has the “hidden storage” feature only available in a 2007-2010. Anyways, I was always spending time in traffic squeezing the handle... jerking it upwards, this way and that way...wondering what I was missing.

 

It was originally advertised as a convenient work surface for laptops.

 

What is this 2007-2010 hidden storage you speak of?

 

A 2013 I had for a used car inspection I found storage hidden under the cup holders..

 

2nd glove box above first, sunglasses compartment in each front door arm rest. But they’re not obvious, at all.

 

In addition, the deep pocket located on the left side of your console was designed to stow your laptop and paper work.

 

Yet no one ever talks about the under seat compartment in center seat of a column shift tundra.

 

Complete with 12v outlet!

My wifes Rav4 does the center console lid slide-forward thingy, it makes an annoying ratcheting sound while you slide it back and forth too. It'll scare the dogs awake when you lean over to re situate on a long road trip and accidentally ratchet that sucker all the way out.

 

I noticed it not to long ago myself. Last night I was even looking through the owners manual to see if there was any explanation or particular use for it, but there was barely a reference to it.

The manual did go into detail on how to put tissues in the tissue holder though!

 

I've had my 07 for 8 years now and never knew that so TY for that but I can still open mine up while forward.
