    SWITCHBACK AND CONNECTORS

Orange wire is switchback wire. This wire must be spliced into driver side (red wire) and passenger side (pink wire) turn signal harness. You must also do the "Amber DRL Delete Mod" (Scroll down for instructions) to use your switchbacks. If you don't, when you start your truck your LED's will be Amber.

If you do not want switchbacks, just don't connect the wire.

    DRL DELETE MOD

    1. Remove dash panel (since cab). Its the panel where the mirror controls, door light switches and leveler knob is.
    2. Locate Flasher Relay
    3. Locate the SMALL GRAY WIRE (not the big wire). Its two vertical rows, it will be on the first row of wires.
    4. Cut small gray wire.

    Done.

Thanks Leo! Just as soon as I get my retro's back I'm going to lay out my stuff on the floor and copy your diagrams to help me make sense of everything. Hopefully by doing so I'll have an easier time understanding the installation.

That's great. Maybe @Sean266 or @csuviper can add this thread to the DIY / Mods post

@eledobleu Do you think powering LED strips and halos from the little gray wire work instead of the ign tap option? That idea was in my head for the last days maybe go to try it some day, I mean cut the gray wire and then tap the LEDs harness to that wire and keep the DRL function as is from factory, I'm not sure if this power line shut off of when headlights are on or just dim the ambers this is a raw idea don't have my retros yet to see if this work

I know the ambers still come on when the headlights are on but maybe disconnecting the third wire from ambers and tapping this with the dim function wire in the LED strip to make the LED DRL dim when the side maker lights and headlights are on, I think this is how the OEM drls should work, I don't have a platinum or 1794 to see how they work

By default OEM LED strips DRLs stay at full intensity as DRLs and when side makers and headlights are on the DRL strip Dim to 30-50% intensity, I'm going to try with a multimeter when I have my retros.... some day

Does anyone know of another fuse to tap into besides the "ING" (Ignition) fuse? The reason I ask is because I already have little LEDs (Raptor) tapped on that fuse. I can move them, but still need another fuse to tap into. Thanks..!

You can tap into the cig lighter. Its only 12v when the ignition is on.

Is the passenger side ground bolt already there or need to drill a hole with a new bolt? I haven't looked under the hood yet.

I installed my buddy's retrofit by @eledobleu while he was deployed. Both grounds were there; no need to drill new holes or get new bolts

@eledobleu, So to make sure I'm on the right path. If I want to retain my Amber DRL function so that I can use my VLed switchbacks as such, I would not do the DRL delete mod you mention. Also, if I don't connect the orange switchback wire, my LED strip and shroud will remain white. Lastly, by following your guide, when will my LED strip and shrouds light up ... As soon as I turn on my parking lights or as soon as I start up my truck?

yeah, I had to call Leo when I first saw all of the wiring, but after just a short overview, the install was very straight forward. At the time, I wasn't even researching retrofits, so I had no idea about anything. Of course, now I'm interested in getting it done, so I've researched it to death.

I have a set of retros from eledobleu. I did not activate my switchbacks or delete the amber. The LED strip and shroud lights up as soon as you start the car and stays lit until you shut it down. It is not dependent on any light positions or switches.

Using the wire tap to the IGN fuse, they will come on when you start the truck and stay on until you turn it off, regardless of your headlights.

Yeah, that's what I'm seeing ... I was hoping to figure out how to wire the strips and shrouds to come on only after turning on our parking lights. I wonder if I tap into the parking light if that would supply enough power to run the strip/shrouds.

Following his directions with the IGN fuse tap your LED DRLs will light up just after your key is in the ON position

Yep ... I was hoping to only have my Amber DRL's on during day time usage (with my VLeds as switchbacks) and then only having the strip/shroud on when I turned on my parking lamps.

That look easy just tap your harness to the parking lamps to power on your shroud and strip only when you turn on your lights, this is how the LED Strip in spyders work

Ground your black wire and red wire taped to the parking lamps that simple

Exactly what I was thinking ...and exactly how I want my lamps to work, just like our Spyder headlamps. Just trying to confirm with @eledobleu if that would work.

Not sure about the black and red wire though? Would that be necessary, and if so ... How would one go about doing that? I'm trying to remember how the Spyders are wired.

I'd just plug and play with the different fuses there and see which works for how you want. "Head L*" something fuses all correlate with your headlights. They are right next to the IGN fuse.

I think I'll just have to wait until my lamps arrive and layout everything and compare Leo's guide with how the Spyders are wired and go from there. In the meantime, hopefully Leo will have something to say to help enlighten me.

I'm sure he will. The nice thing is that the projector lamps are completely separate from the LEDs. So you can hook all that up and then mess with the LEDs.

When I did my Raptor lights, I wired everything and then tried the fuse tap in different places. Doesn't hurt anything.

BTW, what projectors did you get, the 4.0s?

They are white until you turn on your blinker, then they turn amber/orange and blink. When blinker goes off, they "switch back" to white.

That would be a clean way to go no taping wires
