ordered a set of TA KO2 today and my buddy said that Costco sells some kind of lesser quality tires from the same manufacturers.
We’ve always got our tires from them and never had a problem. Anyone else ever hear this?

    I think that's common knowledge.

Same thing goes for guns. Wally World sells lower grade weapons than what you would get at a real firearms dealer. That's how they sell so cheap.

What does lesser quality mean? Will it not hold up as well (8 ply vs 10 ply, etc), lesser mileage warranty? I would assume if they are in fact lesser quality the warranty would differ.

An example is I bought the onkyo surround sound system from them for 600 bucks a few years ago and no one else carries that model number so one day my remote broke and I called onkyo to replace it and they asked where I purchased that set up because they could not find that model in there system and asked where I bought it and I told them costco so they said oh ok that makes sense they get items specifically for them only

I found the same thing when looking at the Roomba vacuums. Costco had a model that I couldn't seem to find elsewhere for comparison.

They could be blems, have some kind of a flaw in the appearance of the tire, not necessarily in the quality of the tire.

What Costco’s are you guys shopping at? The model numbers on their little placard aren’t the same model #’s as the box says. Every tv I have bought from them had the same model #’s as the manufacturers websites.

That is made to keep it exclusive to Costco. They negotiate the price and quantity. They set the numbers.

Hmm...out of 30K members on here I'm sure someone out there must be a Costco employee to settle this. :argue:

Only a high level Costco purchasing agent would be able to say for sure, and I’m 100% positive that they wouldn’t say a word.

I've never met anyone who disliked BFG KO2s tires. Great tire from Costco, or any tire shop. I have bought (4) sets of 35x12.5x17r from Costco myself and got about 55k miles out of them.

Yup. I snuck into a Costco recently to look at TVs and compare prices to Bestbuy and Fry's. Couldn't really compare because the models were slightly different with similar models being about $80 cheaper for what I wanted. Took a while to figure out the Costco model has one less hdmi port, so I bought a slice of pizza and left.

To be totally fair, I found that Lowes and Home Depot do similar to avoid price matching each other. When I was buying new toilets for my house Lowes wouldn't price match Home Depot on a Kohler Cimarron because their model number is different. If theres one thing I know damn well its toilets, it's the same exact one with a different box.

I highly doubt, that bfg, actually Michelin, is going to let a lower grade tire with bfg on it go out the door that may be shitty quality. Think about the liability behind that.

Every tire has the country of manufacture on the sidewall.

Costco is one of my biggest competitors and they do not sell different tires than we do.
I have matched some of their part numbers with the VPN for certain Michelin’s, BFG’s, and Bridgestones.

Take your tin foil hats off.

Best toilet there is in my opinion, I have three here. When I was a service plumber a guy I rode with had this sales pitch he would use on guys.
"Its a taller bowl so your legs don't fall asleep. It's a long bowl so your boys have space to hang. It has a 3" flapper so when you flush BAWOOOSH! If you clog this thing you need to see a doctor."
    Sold every time :D

costco would not take the risk of selling inferior products. too much at stake for their reputation. Plus they have great 5 years warranty with tires.
been running their K02s on my Nissan for the past 4 years and they even mounted my Toyo on a my spare rim for cheap.

Manufacturers do make products specifically for Costco and other warehouse clubs. They create separate “packages” so that the warehouse companies can sell the item at a discount. BUT, there is a different model number attached to that item. (Usually electronics).

I’m not “in the know”, but it’s highly unlikely that a tire manufacturer would make a different tire for Costco without changing the name.

The liability is not necessarily on Costco. It would be on the manufacturer. Plus I really don’t think a tire manufacturer would take the political hit by selling a lessor quality tire and call it the same thing.
