Hello: I have a 2017 Tundra Limited CM and recently (this summer) started hearing a rattle that is driving me crazy. It comes from where the top of the dashboard meets the windshield. It rattles when I drive bumps in the road and is very annoying. I can recreate the noise by tapping the place where it is coming from on that piece of plastic. Seems like a clip broke or something.

Any one else have this issue? Recommend a fix? Anyone know where I can find instructions on how the get underneath the dash without taking the entire dash off? I tried through the glove box but cannot figure out how to remove it. Any help is appreciated.

I’ve seen threads like this about Tacoma’s. When people took them to the dealer because of it the dealer stuffed some foam between the dash and the windshield.

Is the piece of plastic itself? Or is it under the piece of plastic? When the rattling is occurring, can you apply pressure to the plastic to get it to stop?

Also, this piece in the front pops right off, this might help you get back to the area where the noise is coming from. I took this picture last year while trying to fix a buzzing noise of my own, but mine wound up being the heater core tubes, and doesn't sound like the issue your'e having.

Scuba: thanks for the info. I was going to go to Home Depot and some foam weather stripping (3/4" or 1" wide) and tuck behind the foam that is there now to see if that works.

Max Power: Thanks also....how did you remove the front panel? Any special tools needed? Is it just clipped in?

Also, are you able to put your hand in and reach the back top of dash from inside? Its the top of the dash that bounces down and taps the underneath making the rattle. I was hoping to get some foam rubber and stuff it from underneath or replace the clips if missing (if there are any)

You can use a regular screw driver, it pops right off. I was trying to reach down lower into the area behind the glove box when I was in the process of solving my noise, so I'm not sure. It's a real simple thing to snap off and on, I'd say give it a shot.

This happened to my tacoma. You'll need to take some felt tape and put it between the two parts that rattle.
