I have a stock 2019 battery and want to move to an aftermarket battery due to the addition of aftermarket modifications.

After using the search bar and researching multiple battery threads it is clear that the NorthStar and Odyssey are the top two favorites. There can be only one! Ready.....opinions!

Northstar without a doubt. Optima has gone to crap.

I went with the Northstar 27F, have no experience with Optima.

Both are AGM (absorbent glass mat) technology. Northstar uses flat plate cell configuration, Optima uses cylindrical cell configuration.

Comparison of the two brands 27F battery:
    Northstar NSB-AGM 27F***Optima D27F Yellowtop
    Dim: 12.4"L X 6.8"W X 8.8"H***12.2"L X 6.8"W X 8.6"H
    Wgt*: 68 lbs***53.2 lbs
    CCA: 930 @ 0 deg F***830 @ 0 deg F

*Weight indicates quantity of lead in plates.

Yellowtop is about $60 cheaper, slightly smaller, 22% lighter (not an advantage for a battery), and has much lower CCA (11%).

Don't know man.....They're both good batteries. I have two Odysseys in my boat, and the Northstar in my truck. Northstar 27f is a better fit in the truck, and I think it's the group called for matching OEM. Odyssey doesn't make a 27f to my knowledge, and if I recall, the Odyssey group 24 would require a spacer underneath, or shorter securing rods. So I'd say go with the Northstar for your truck.

I went with dual odyssey. I’m pretty happy with them.

I think most of us went with Northstar because of the group buys. I'm happy with my 27f

NorthStar 27F was my go to after my stock battery went to crap in my 2018 after 2 years. More than happy with my purchase and zero issues!

I will be getting a Northstar when my 2017 Toyota battery dies. (Installed by Toyota when I bought the truck used) I have a ton of aftermarket mods, my battery is fine (today).

Is your battery misbehaving? If not why dump it prematurely?

No, not misbehaving yet. However, due to modifications (aka the forums made me do it) that will be attached to it, I will need a larger battery.

    Rear LED lights
    Air Bag compressor
@mattgecko bed lights and under hood lights
    Winch
    Ditch lights
    Front 42 inch LED bar
    Icom radio
    Front/rear dash cam

I should probably weigh the benefits of the larger 31M or the 27F and go with one of those two.

    Thank you for the assistance!

I understand needing more power. I have Pioneer NEX system a 2000 watt sub amp, 1000 watt 4 channel amp running the door speakers & the JBL system amp running the dash speakers, I have a hard-wired radar detector, camera and numerous usb outlets. I'm installing a winch in the next week or so and I'm sure eventually I'll need more battery but today I'm good.

@Zero One Actual if you’re doing all that you should look into a dual battery set up. Cool thing about it is it uses a switch to separate batteries so you never drain your main starter battery, and if you do it has a switch to link both batteries and give you enough juice to start the truck.
It’s what I use to run front and rear winches and aux lighting.

x2power is the batteriesplus rebrand of northstar. has an extra year of warranty and you can easily get 10-20% off with coupons. my group 27f will run my dometic fridge for over 2 days and still start the truck. It also did 2 full-length 60' winch pulls in a row before it started slowing down. if you think you'll need more battery then that then go 31, otherwise, no point.

@dfwluis, thank you sir. I looked at multiple threads about the duel battery setup and I want to do it but the cost of that setup (SDHQ is the one I looked at) is hard for me to justify.

@ChrisTRDPro, I will give that model a look for sure. I didn’t even know about it.

I've had mine for almost 2 years now, so far so good.
    Runs a Engel fridge constantly.

The kit SDHQ put together is sweet indeed but unfortunately I was not able to take advantage of it. I just installed an ExtremeAire Magnum compressor in the passenger side under the hood just in front of the fire wall. I would have to figure out another place to relocate my water bottle. I also have an electric switch and a control unit for my onboard air up/down kit that all mounts where the batteries are. Big bummer for me

    Not nearly enough room here!
Two totally different animals. Optima and Odyssey. I had 2 Odyssey's in my boat for several years before selling them to reduce weight. Replaced stock battery in my Tundra with Northstar's 27F, no complaints.

Ah, snap! I missed that too. Anyway, I'm sure the OP can do a comparison as well as I can. :(
