What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Always liked those all in one keys

 

Ruffed grouse hunting trip in northern NH. Tent was covered in ice every morning...but the beer stayed cold, and the fires warm....and the tundra started every morning...obviously

 

That's the kind of relaxation I dont think I'll ever get. Looks like an amazing time and a solid dog.

 

Do you have to have a dealer cut these keys? Or any hardware store that cuts keys? Or even one of those self serve kiosks....?

 

I just went to my local locksmith. $2! They tried to charge me $60 Incase they messed up but I told them it was a cheap ebay key and that I would take the risk away from them, so $2 it was!

 

H.D. or Lowe’s should have 1” x 1/8” aluminum stock. Easy to work with. Paint it black once you have it fabricated.

 

Home Depot has aluminum bar stock in 1/2 x 1/8” and 3/4 x 1/8” and 1” x 1/8”.

Nice find on that key. I researched to no avail for 2000-2004 Tundras. Seems only for 05-06 models, unless someone knows otherwise.

 

What if you bent the plates toward the window, then mounted them to the surface that's perpendicular to the window?

You'd want to custom bend each bracket to the proper angle while the brackets are still attached to the rack. Mark the positions on the door, then remove the brackets from the rack, screw the brackets to the door, then re-attach the rack.

Was it just you and the dog? I love doing solo trips with just me and my dog. I like getting away in nature on my own and having a dog is definitely key!

May work on 04 DC trucks, my fob is the same as your old one.

 

You feed it in while the truck is running and then let it sit for awhile when it's empty...then drive it spiritedly...

gotta make the time! yeah she was great...for retrieving the one duck we shot...she basically just walked around the woods until she stepped on one...pretty useless for upland.

today was one of them gorgeous fall days and gave the ole girl new plugs. Plug gap was off just a tad
Pretty sure she’s gonna run a little better even tho she’s been runnin great ! Had her 9 yrs, had 113k, now she has 188k. No clue when the last time plugs were changed. Life change for me lets me care of her better and enjoying it every minite thanks to wonderful place here to learn and offer our knowledge with each other

hopefully tomorrow it’s onto the maf amd pcv.

 

Rotation. I replaced early with 8k to monitor the work/engine performance. The plugs I removed still are good so I cleaned them up and will reuse on the next 8k interval. Seems the plugs like to become loose anyways over time so this is way to monitor and put clean one in and tighten.

I may still have the Platinum plugs from last year so I have three sets. 2 sets of Copper core and 1 of Platinum.

Read the instructions carefully. Read the reviews to get a feel for what to do and not to do. One thing I did, which I figured out on my own, was to relocate the curved clip down on the straw further to give more length on the spraying end. I did this instead of cutting the straw to length. Lots of reviewer complained that the straw wasn’t long enough.

 

Nice. Gaps off because the Copper core tips have severely eroded it seems!

 

That is a lot of unnecessary wear and tear on those threads and your time. Plugs are meant to run for specific mileage. I would more worry about having damaged threads or coil pack from all the R&R but I do applaud your preventive maintenance take at the truck.

Toyota says 120K for the change internal as long as you’re using iridium plugs

 

My time is not an issue much anymore which has allowed me to take over maintenance on the 2002 that was delegated to the stealer since new initially, for the first 5 years, and then two separate trusted mechanics afterwards in the later years.

Now, I’ve gone back to my roots and do most everything myself except the wheel bearing last week that my mechanic said he only did it for me because they are a pain in the a$$! This guy taught me a lot about working on vehicles when I was younger.

As far as my coil packs, they are all fairly new Densos with less than 10k miles.

Threads seem fine. I believe the dissimilar metals hardness (steel plugs vs. Aluminum heads) create the exaggerated contraction/expansion which loosens the plugs.

I installed some 12 hole injectors back in Feb. and wanted to see the plugs with eyes. I’ll be happy to get 4 more years out of the truck and make another assessment at that time to keep it. Stoked so far with it!
