What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Your looking for a booster right? I can see if any other dealer has one in stock. But chances are they’re going to charge an arm and a leg

 

I called 2 others and they said back order as well. I just cancelled my order and going with an aftermarket instead. Has a 2 year warranty at least.

 

My truck has a Napa unit on it. Seems fine.

 

Good to hear. I just never know what kind of quality to expect with aftermarket. I figure getting 16 years of service from the Toyota one is worth the extra cost, I just can't wait until Thanksgiving.

Did a general inspection on my truck and noticed my calipers are rusted to hell, guess that silver paint they came with wasn't worth a thing. The passenger side one might even be leaking at the pistons. I'll never buy Beck Arnley crap again.

Outside tie rod ends are rusty too but they will be fine. Next time I change them it won't be a rainy month and I'll paint them first.

 

its not silver paint. they oil the bare iron. they'll rust in a few days.
best remans ive found are the Napa ones or powerstops. napas are painted black and hold up good. powerstops are red and hold up good.

 

What bump stops are you running in front?

 

Hmm since the trucks almost done im thinking around Christmas time i'll get some TRD pro 4runner wheels... theyre cheap enough for me.. and ive got 1 for sure bent one possibly bent wheel on the truck right now... decisions

or i might put my tacomas wheels on for now and get some use out of those since they've been sitting in the basement for 3 years....

 

I looked back, I think these are Beck Arnley. They claim to be "silver coated", looked like thin paint to me. I expected some surface rust but that much in less than 6k miles in Southern California makes me frightened of how they would hold up in a climate where seasons exist. Next time around I may go Napa, do you know if those tend to come with the full size bleeder or the wimpy 8mm ones that these had?

the bleeders are hit or miss with all remans. some are 8 some are 10. Buy some russel speed bleeders when you do it again. you'll thank me later

 

Just a shout out to @Roman for the service he provides. When I had a question about some small obscure parts I couldn't find on Toyota's fiche, I sent him a PM on this site. He got back to me with a link to the exact parts I needed. I just clicked the links, clicked Add to Cart, and parts were at my door a few days later. It turned out Cools Spring's price was cheaper than Toyota Parts Deal on these particular parts. But even if they weren't, the service would have been well worth any extra cost. And if I remember correctly, we get a 20% discount on shipping.

 

I've got the z32 powerstops, the stockish ones, and mine are painted silver. Still no rust after 7 months.

 

You need to...wait for it.....paint them black!!!

Here is a pic from some Iridiums with 30k miles on them I took out about 8k miles ago. When the 8k mile plugs came out yesterday, they looked similar color wise. The #7 and #8 (rear most plugs) always seem oily compared to the others which look ‘healthy’ (like #5 plug pictured) per the experts.

Notes: These Iridiums (90k miles rated) were installed by others. When removed, half of the plugs were hand loose. The combustion came up on the collars as pictured. Yesterday the 8k plugs removal were mostly tight and two were slight tight.

I am now using the OEM copper core plugs (rated for 30k miles) and swapping them out every 7-8k miles as I believe the heat contraction and expansion loosen these plugs over time. I clean up the plugs after removing and revolve them back in on the next change. This keeps the plugs in check and compression tight.

I wonder if they made sure to remove and spray paint the pads beds contacts, as well?

If you start losing your marbles, you could always paint them blue.

 

Got er done. I realize it looks a bit goofy but it works and it's the best I could come up with. Much easier to do with the door panel removed.






I used these mending plates from Home Depot.

 

You should try to get more screws mounted to the panel at least, since you only have one at each attachment point, when weight is added, it’s going to want to pivot off the single screw mount and flex and shift. Even s simple triangulation from panel to your brackets would help out

 

That's fair but it feels more solid than it looks. I was actually surprised. I don't plan on putting much weight on it. I'd like to get a few more screws in there but there are only so many spots where the holes line up. The door is also curved so you have to configure it just right for it to be flush.

I'm not sure where else I could add some screws. Any ideas?

 

Anything custom is never easy. Do you not have a drill or do you not want to drill more holes into the panel? There is plenty or spots to drill into bracket/panel on the left side, anwhere that the backer overlaps the panel(further in is best) making a second connection point will really make it sturdy. The right side could probably take brackets to form a triangle

 

I'm not afraid of drilling more holes. That's the only way to do it.

I just went and pulled on it. It does want to pull downward but takes a good bit of force. I think if I add one at the top pointing downward that would help. That's how Rago does the one for the 5th gen 4Runner.

 

Should paint the Mounting plates and screw black to match the rest of it man, com on

 

My wife said the same thing. My logic was that the black plates would stand out more than silver against a gray door. Probably should have painted them though. You right!

 

That's better. Any idea where I could find some metal in that shape/size? Home depot doesn't seem to sell that.

 

I think you can buy long stock there (6’ pieces) Should be in the general area where sheets of metal are sold. Buy a long piece of Aluminum and cut it down to size. Pre-drill and good to go!

 

A quick HD search yields a 3’ piece. They sell longer. You can even use steel which is le$$.

 

Tried to ‘fix’ my driver seat back as it’s starting to piss me off and I need to get a new seat. Fabric is old and crappy anyways. Also bought the cheap eBay key wit’s built in fob and get it cut today. Works great and only cost me $19 total!
