This is my first post here but I’ve owned several tundras until about a year so I decided to get a Chevy duramax. That didn’t last long and I’m picking up my 2019 White Tundra CrewMax SR5 4x4 later this week. Looking for advice on a good balance between everyday driving (city and highway) and off-road. My wife and I are wanting to pick up camping. We want to build this truck right from the beginning so we limit do overs and wasted money. So we will probably over build our experience to start. We are definitely planning on a roof/bed rack and tent and suspension upgrades (recommendations appreciated) for that comfortable road driving experience but as we progress in our experience we will have the off road capability we need. Look forward to hearing from some of you all. Thanks in advance for any insight given through y’all’s own experiences!

Welcome to the fun! There are several threads on just the info you're looking for. Check the search function up top. Look forward to seeing your progress, post up some pics when you pick up the truck!

Thanks MAGDADDY and I will definitely put up some starting pictures when I get it later this week! Looking forward to being here and being back in a tundra! Ive definitely done some browsing on here and think I have decided for the suspension the Elka 2.5 DC reservoir shocks front and rear (0-2") (while Im at it Im leaning towards going ahead and replacing UCAs so I don't have to get back in there twice) to bring the front up a bit. I know I have to keep a slight rake with the safety technology so haven't decided how far I want to come up in front and rear yet. Then eying the voodoo alumax modular racks for the bed as I typically use a bed cover and I know they make the brackets that work with tonneau covers.

I can’t say enough good things about the Icon suspension system with the RXT rear spring pack and shock setup. We use our tundra for work offroad and always have either a load in the bed and/or a trailer hooked up. We run the extra leaf in our spring pack and have been super happy with them. No sag issues, very comfortable ride and a surprising amount of flex on the trails. I’ve been really happy with how controlled the rear axle feels when wheeling.

Keep it stock. Pretty capable straight off the factory floor.

Thanks for the different ideas y'all have given, I will look into those as well. It wasn't that I didn't like the duramax, I just really didnt need it or utilize it capabilities. I don't tow much and for me it was kind of ridiculous to have a 60k- 70k truck just to look pretty in the driveway. Looking forward to getting back to a simple functional platform I can have a little fun with.

I hear ya. I am starting to tow more and was thinking of upgrading to a diesel or 2500 gasser. Was just curious about your experience. Good luck with the build. I would hop on the Icon bandwagon with Total Chaos UCAs. And for tires I love my General Grabber ATX's. Tires are great and after 30K miles they still look brand new

For sure, if you don’t have the need, the routine mix, fuel, lack of turning radius and vehicle price do not make sense. Sold mine when I no longer had the need.

New question...does anyone run Fox shocks can't seem to find many on here who are, if so is there a reason?
