Ok every one im looking at a used 2010 tundra, the carfax is great... All maintenance done, undrcoating applied by the dealer, but my one concern is there is a slight rust on the metal all under the two front seats... Is that normal? No real signs of it being flooded, runs great, seems like maybe a product of being used in the snow alot? ... The price is great 5k bellow kbb. Am i being too overly cautious?

Inside the cab? Wouldn’t worry too much about it. Where is the truck located? Just want to be sure it wasn’t sprayed under to cover up rust

Truck is in NJ, it is from new hampshire...under coating was done by dealer when the truck had 5000 miles on it, so its good... Yes it was inside the cab under the seats

Mally, do you know what kind of undercoating was used? Is it rubberized?

If you had a picture it would be easier but if it’s just surface rust, sand it down and use corroseal (rust converter and primer in one) over the blasted spots. That’s what I’m doing, I’ve sanded down underneath (actually finished today) and I’m applying the corroseal Tuesday. It could have been used as a plow truck if the rust is up front like that.

Is it a black undercoating? If it is, like others have said here, i would climb under and take a real good look to see if it could be covering up or even causing rust. N.H. like most of us up here in this part of the country uses lots of salt.

No, no no... The rust is on the inside of the cab on the slider rails for moving the seats up, the springs, and support parts...thinking it could be flood damage? But no mold smells or other signs of water. Under the truck is black and coated... Looks good for a 2010

...plastic bedliner? Peel it off, any swelling of the metal around the mounting bolts? also look underneath the truck where the bed mounts are...that's where it starts. If there is visible rust, and inside the cab? There's rust in other places...That black coating may have been done by toyota, if it was then the truck isnt eligible for frame replacement..that stuff covers up issues...IMHO Start looking south of Virginia..unless it was garage kept, never driven in winter

To ensure the rust is not from flooding, lift up the carpeting and try to look for rust on the floor. If there is no rust or signs of moisture sounds like a great deal!

I understand now. Blue knight is right, take a peek under the carpeting. If the floor is dry and rust free, sounds like you shouldn’t have a problem.
