New Owner Warranty Question.

So guys, I signed the papers for my 2020 Platinum today, but the truck comes in tomorrow! I just had a question about the warranty that comes with the truck. So she said the truck comes with a 3 year/36,000 bumper to bumper warranty and a 5 year/ 60,000 power train warranty. She gave me the option to add a 7 year/ 100,000 warranty that extends both of the previously mentioned warranties, it costs an extra $40 a month. My question is, is this worth it? I drive about 20,000 miles a year so i'll be through that 100,000 in 5 years. Has anyone had experience either turning this warranty down and regretting it or is it a waste of money and a money-grab by the dealership?

FWIW. I bought mine a 75K with a factory warranty till drivetrain hits 100K . 12 month 12K Toyota warranty except for maintenance parts. You will know. There is a 100K factory warranty on the drive train no matter what.

 

They were definitely being deceptive with me about it when I was signing the papers. I hate how they try to nickle and dime you after you just spent over 50K on a truck

 

You spent 50K on a truck. Don't buy that crap. I bought mine and closing I said here is cash they showed about $4k worth of offers that the guy in closing said I need I smiled and said nope and asked him if he had a Tundra. don't fall for wasting money. It's why you bought a nice ass Tundra

I feel 5 years and 100000 miles from factory on power train is plenty

 

If you drove an average amount I wouldn’t buy an extended warranty, but since you put on extra miles, you will prob need it at some point. Whether it will be a big ticket item or not who knows.

Get it, If I knew about that stupid cam tower leaks, I would've gotten one for mine. Now it's too late.

 

Is that still an issue with the 2020s?

 

Forgive my ignorance as this is my first Tundra, and first non Gm or Ford truck. Can someone please explain the definition of "cam tower"? All the pics i see of leaking, i would have considered a valve cover gasket. What did i miss ?

$40/month is way over priced. I don't buy extended warranties on anything. If I think I need one I don't buy the product.

 

Never ever ever let a dealer rope you into buying a warranty when you are signing papers on a new car/truck. Repeat - never ever ever do this. "No" is the only word that should come out of your mouth when asked if you want to buy an extended warranty at the time of sale. Your emotions are running wild because you are buying a new car/truck - and it's a dirty game they play.

Now this is not to mean don't get an extended warranty - just don't decide at the time of sale. I learned this this the hard way and let a dealer talk me into a very pricey extended warranty when I bought an F-150 years ago. That was an expensive learning experience as I didn't know that you can (and should) shop warranties later. I let my guard down and let them play the "whatt kind of monthly payment are you wanting" game. Turns out the warranty did come in handy - but I way overpaid for it.

As others mentioned - you have time to decide before your 3yr/36k mile factory warranty is up to decide and you can and should shop for the best price.

I was pretty shocked myself to know Toyota let this happen, sometimes they fix it, sometimes they don't give a rats ass.. It's like rolling a dice! Though people will argue that it won't break your engine, it's still a QC problem that should've be there.

Thanks a lot for the info. I wasnt even aware that I had until the 3 year 36k warranty was up to decide. I definitely see why a lot of people unknowingly buy them at the time of sale with your emotions and adrenaline going from buying a new car. I hope this thread helps a lot of new buyers be aware whenever they purchase.

 

Yep, and the dealer is not going to tell you that you don't have to buy now. I tell the finance manager up front to not even try. This did not work when I bought last Tacoma. When I refused he pulled out his bag of tricks. When we got down to $10/month I could not pass. Then I got home and read the paperwork. He pulled a slight of hand with rate. I called the sales director and said get my old truck ready the deal is off. I pulled in the dealership the next day ready to drive my old truck home. Paperwork was all reworked with no warranty and ready to sign. When I bought Tundra I said up front don't even try. Finance manager had to try to get some money off me so he tacked on a $600 dealer fee. I just said take it off or I am out of here. He did. Finance managers are shysters

^This x1000! The dealer pulled a similar fast one on my Tundra. We’d negotiated a price that I thought included the $1495 freight charge - and they slapped it onto the negotiated price. I didn’t realize it until I got home. I told them to take it off or I’m bringing the truck back (I had an out because the Toyota Financing was stalled because I had a freeze on my credit report).

They did cut me a check for the $1495 and made it right - they didn’t like it though.
