Boooo. Just sent her away for a starter replacement. 128k miles, almost 12 yrs old.

    FYI:
$529 part (list) at Toyota. Cool Springs and Camelback have it for ~$360. Autozone has their Duralast (made by... wait for it... Denso) for $220 (new). Everyone quoted me 5.5-6.0 hours of labor. I was on the fence doing it myself but I just don’t have the time, and it’s a big job with the starter BEHIND the exhaust manifold on the right side.

Funniest (sad actually) thing today... asked Camelback Toyota for a quote (they are the ones offering the part for $367 online) for the job, and their quote had the part at $529. I mentioned they are selling it - themselves - for $367 so can I get that price. They said... no. Me: “wait, you’re telling me if I buy the part online and give SOMEONE ELSE $1000 in labor, I can have it for $367. If I give YOU $1000 in labor, I can have it for $529?” Them: “yes.”

New to the forum. 08 SR5 CM. Got maintenance done over the last 2 months. Finally getting to some utility mods over the weekend.

    *Fortin Evo-1 remote start installed
*Added D rings into the OE bed track mount holes. Tonneau cover clamps don't accommodate the rails so had to find more tie down points.
*Installed LED bed lights (tapped to the cargo lights)
*LED swapped all the interior dome and door lights
*Put on some CL find Tyger star armor rails.

Truck started slow this morning. Didnt think too much of it as it was still cold. Drove 15 miles to the gun range. Went to leave, dead. Thankfully, only had to wait about 10 minutes before a guy showed up and was nice enough to give me a jump. Drove home, checked the alt (14.23v output), shut the truck off, and tried to restart. Dead, not even a click.
Interstate battery purchased in Feb. Yeah, a little ticked off.

Yep. I was getting ready to go let off a couple rounds from my edc.

However, I was wrong. Brand new battery, nothing. Freaking dead starter. Relay clicks, starter clicks, no crank.

Quite often. However, not this one. Both terminals got cleaned (posts also) and tightened. Grounds are clean and tight. Cable on starter was very tight.
Starter spins up when unbolted and sitting on the side if the motor. But, when engaged to the flexplate, it clicks.
Thinking it is just tired. Bench tested it once I got it out, spins with about as much torque as my cordless drill.
    Ordered a new one.
Took starter apart and cleaned the dust out then put it back in (minus passenger side downpipe/cat pipe). Figured Id test it while waiting. Started on first try. No other changes were made than cleaning the starter components and ground clamp nut was hand tightened.

Volt drop while cranking with fuel disabled to prevent start.
From batt + post to solenoid input post was .073.
From solenoid input to solenoid output was .183.
From starter body to battery - post was .000

I installed my new exhaust from dirtydeeds. 10 inch SS. so far i like it alot i dont have the resonator on yet. It has a nice throaty sound. Quiet when maintaining speed. On accelerating from a light you know its there. With the radio on not even on high volume you just dont notice it driving around town.

    Working on it
Saturday, finally got around to rear seat mod, took me about 30 minutes, pulled out storage box ,unbolted seat , unhooked rear backs , pulled away, hammered down about 1 inch, put all back together . Now I store my smitty built air compressor , spare hydraulic bottle jack , all fit nicely. Great mod with hammer. Also changed oil and filter , only use Toyota filters, I took stock skid off at last oil change and cutout spot to get at filter housing next time , and this time it worked perfectly, I'm not big off roader just hunting and fishing and field work, so stock skid is fine. The skid cutout picture is on my build page. Taking back in for under coat touch up before winter, Midwest is brutal. Also added phone holder to O-Shit handle ,works great, can see well and hear really good there, only problem is visor, but no big deal. Saw this on another post, thanks to that guy, great spot. Tons of help here, just wish I had that Tundras.com decal.

Installed a black exhaust tip with a 3" inlet and 4" outlet. Also painted the stock exhaust matte black with ceramic header paint. I like having everything under the truck black minus shocks etc. Seems like a cleaner look, but probably just me being overkill. 20191015_175719.jpg

1st attempt at replacing steering rack bushings failed last year gave up on trying to get the old bushings out.

2nd attempt today, armed with chopped toyota tire iron chisel, lots of pounding, and motivation resulted in success! New Energy suspension bushings installed. Initial feedback no more sloppy steering, feels tighter, and noticeably does not drift off line when driving straight. Alignment tomorrow.
