Hi All New here from Amelia island Fla Have black 2019 Trd Pro. Hearing disturbing rumors about 2021 Tundras getting 6 banger ecoboost engines Heard that Toyota bought a bunch from Ford to study for possible similar engine for Tundras or Tacomas. Sure hope not as I have friends with Fords who are totally sick of them. Several have expierenced turbo meltdown with bearing failures. I want nothing to do with any such changes so I am considering ordering a 2020 before they trainwreck the whole platform.
I have not been able to find a verified list and description of available options for the 2020 Trd pro Any assistance on these issues would be greatly appreciated Thanks in advance for any input. Sorry I got to this party late Just heard about this today

Whatever a Toyota puts out will likely be 10X more reliable than the Ford counterpart. They have been researching and developing for a long time.

I get not wanting to risk it though, especially with the first year model, and even more so considering the reliability of the proven 5.7L v8.

Try and use the search to find previous threads on 2020 pro and that should help you.

Thanks so much for responses. Its looking like a new 2020 TRD PRO will be ordered in the near future. Particulary since it looks like they fixed the little things that are bothering me about my 2019. This is the best pickup that I have ever owned and I cant fathom why they would make radical changes. The other brands pale in comparison. I typically buy German autos and this is my first Toyota. All my friends are jumping ship and buying Tundras The build quality is comparable to the high end Mercades Benz examples. I may be a customer for the new platform somewhere down the road but not for at least the first 2 years. Personally I would love to see some 500-600 hp muscle truck come out of the mix with Tundra reliability In any case I will post my choices once i get the 2020 on order

 

Fake News, Toyota has not officially released any specs on the next generation. At this point everything is speculation.
They showed the new model off to some select dealers, but they have not released any official information to the press or public.
It wouldn't surprise me if Toyota purchased some Fords, Dodges, and Chevy's to do their research on the next model that would be prudent market research. Toyota has not released a US turbo vehicle in any other their other models I kinda doubt they would debut this new tech with their truck line. I would expect to see it in Camry, Corolla, or in the Lexus line first.

 

I have no dog in this fight, because I will keep my truck forever, BUT Toyota could very easily work with Subaru as they have in the past to pull of a turbo with minimal risk. Subies have lots of turbos to go off of.

Sure new Supra is turbo as well. By that logic Toyota could just as easily "partner" with Ford and see a joint truck product. I doubt it since the truck lines are not "limited production" like the 86 or Supra tho.
I'm not saying a turbo won't happen, just that it'd be surprising to see this tech released on the Tundra first. It's not impossible they do need to improve fuel economy and small displacement turbo'd motors have proven to do that (albeit not to the extent they claim).
Until they release the specs we are all just speculating.

twin turbo v6 with 415 hp. I wouldn't rule that out.

Thats my plan trade 2019 or sell outright buy identical 2020 Hearing that there will be 2 engine options in 2021. 3.5 TT V6 or Hybrid. Also heard that TRD Pro may be eliminated. This may be just internet garbage but Im not taking chances In any case I would be very happy with 2020 TRD PRO even though I had planned to keep this one for a while. I see visions of a smaller engine that shifts gears constantly with less grunt for on ramps pulling a boat pr other trailer. I have spent time in a Ford with ecoboost and its not my cup of tea. The 5.7 is a wonderful powerplant and jf it goes away Toyota should seek professional help with a good shrink. One thing I have not heard mentioned yet ( sorry if I missed it) The wonderful rumble of that normally aspirated V8. The smaller turbo engines typically sound like crap compared to the V8 and many sports car companies have spent trainloads of money to get a decent exhaust note from turbocharged engines I cant see Toyota following suit. This may be a kneejerk reaction on my part but in any case i will be perfectly happy with an improved version of what I have now Thanks for the warm welcome and comments
