ehh. GM and ford both have slightly higher loyalty numbers than Toyota. All are close to 50%.

Let’s not assume that Toyota is either content or happy about their market share? In 2018 70 percent of vehicle sales in the US market are light trucks. For total production this year, tundra are the third in production this year to Camry and corolla.

I’m pretty sure no business is going to say “sweet. I’ll be the second lowest producer in the largest market segment.”

Furthermore, 2007/2008 gen 2 launch Toyota had a 10% market share. Sales doubled during 2007/2008. Then dropped off. Current market share is less than 7%. If anything you could argue more people want an update and would buy those product if they followed a more industry normal life cycle schedule. The very mild redesign for 2014 shows barely any affect on sales and closely parallel 2003 sales numbers.

Do you not think Toyota has the resources to be a challenger in whatever segment they want to? My point is, the Tundra having the sales numbers it has is strategy on Toyota's part. The plant in San Antonio has a certain capacity. Any sales outside of that defined capacity decreases efficiency and reduces profit margin.

I think you're confusing Toyota with companies like Nissan and Chrysler.

lol, "first redesign since 2015". Ford be like, huge update after 3.5 years. Toyota be like, no update after 12 years.

Toyota has enormous resources being the number 1 car company in the world. I don't know that Toyota values the US 1/2 ton truck market. I do know they are not dedicating a lot of resources to it. If they did value the market, or they did dedicate resources, they wouldn't update every 12 years... it would be on a more common 4 year schedule.

I am also aware of the Toyota's ability to produce to some extent... from what data they release.

I don't think I'm confusing anything. Chrysler obviously has resources as well. Will be #2 or #3 in sales and production this year in our market segment. That being said i wouldn't touch a chrysler product with a pole.

Also... I don't care about any of this... I drive a Tundra. F the rest of em.

Well Toyota is about to bring on line a new Taco plant in Mexico. This will open up production capacity in SA. The site in SA has enough land that they envision eventually doubling production. However, finding labor is a big challenge here. Toyota makes some damn nice trucks marketed in other places that we can't get. Bet some cronyism in the emission and safety laws that are written to help the big 3 that makes Toyota say meh.

Doesn't matter. This site seems to have a large rotation of membership come through. I'm sure I've posted threads that were duplicates since day 1. Still a great place to see and learn about Tundras. I'm amazed at the mods and stuff some folks do and the money they spend to achieve their tundra nirvana. I'm only 2 months in and already spent $2K which is nothing

It happens on sites as big as this. Plus, sometimes the duplications aren’t copies, but simply random spur of the moment discussions. Also, it is hard at times to locate older threads, so to start new ones of similar discussions are much easier.

I know Ford sells a crap ton of F150’s, but I’ll tell you there are ALOT of Tundras on the road here is San Antonio. I’ve heard it’s the same deal in Houston. I see more Tundras than GM trucks on the road. Further north you go then you start seeing less and less Tundras. I’ve owned my Tundra for 2 weeks and can not get enough of driving this beast. Time will tell but if this truck is reliable as everyone says they are I’m staying with Toyota. One of my kids friend works at the plant and I feel good about spending my money on a truck our local community builds.

NO LONGER HAVE A TUNDRA... Waiting
Cause they can't produce more than 100,000 anyways. They're at Max production for the tundra so Why bother, they won't meet demand and get clowned but the big 3.

Of those 900k trucks sold, how many were "fleet deals"? Some companies buy 3, 4, 5 or more trucks at a time as it's cheaper in the long run to get new trucks than maintain their old fleet of vehicles.

The fleet thing is true. But why wouldn’t Toyota go for fleet sales. As a fleet operator I’d sure buy a tundra over ANYTHING on the market.

I realize lots of fleet sales is 3/4 ton and Toyota chooses to not compete in that segment.

Also, of those 900k, how many are still on the road with the original owner? I see alot of those piles of shit on used lots. Probably a good many of that 900k have burnt to the ground.

I started buying Toyota/Hinos for my fleet of smaller box trucks. I would buy Tundras if we had a need for them. Most of what we move is up to 105,500 lbs though and Internationals loaded with Cummins pull those.

    https://www.hino-global.com/corp/about_us/hinoandtoyota.html

I would guess that the Big 3 are in bed with Federal/State Agencies in regards to fleet sales. I don’t see Toyota hopping in bed with any US or State agency.

I look at vehicles as computers.

Dell is every where. Lenovo as well.

Doesn't make them great, it makes them popular, cheap and easy to obtain.

Tundras are not cheap or popular but like anything else, they are easily obtained.

Walk in to most places of business and you will see a Dell.

They buy 60 at a time because of cost. They have a great warranty because they need it.

Tundra is the truck a lot of people want. They can't justify the money.
They look at the bells and whistles of the ford or chevy, the cost compared to a toyota and they buy it.

I like toyota and I am not a fan boy of anything and as I have said a few times I could have bought anything.

I test drove a 70,000 ford raptor and just wouldn't use all the stuff it had and couldn't justify the 20,000 more for shit I would never use. That and I dont drink energy drinks.

It sure was a nice truck though. Love the seats.

I like the buttons in the head unit of a tundra. I can use them and not remove my gloves. I dont need an 8 foot box and I love the interior. It's a truck that feels like a truck. I drove a few that I didn't like because it didn't feel like a truck.

People will buy what they want or think they want.
Go any where in the world and you will see Toyota isn't hurting. They dont need tax payer money and no one gets paid 60 an hour for sweeping a floor.

I’m not saying Toyota is going full steam after the fleet market but, the Tundra SR and Tacoma SR are exactly that.. stripped down made for fleets.

Yes, the big 3 make really nice trucks. I was shopping for a replacement for my 04 Tundra and did a lot of searching and test driving. There is a lot of tech on the newer trucks but it didn't really pan out.
For example, my 04 Tundra had rear AC vents. The new Chevy and Ford had them but they would not articulate to anything but the middle seat position.
The new Chevy and Ford had CarPlay but it wasn't any better than my stock replacement of a Kenwood deck.
Looking at the average MPG during my test drives proved to me the real world MPG was not much different than my Tundra.

I will give the Ford seats high marks.

FWIW I just saw a new Dodge commercial and the rear seats recline. :frusty:
