I’ve got that same tent minus the little awning. It’s pretty good, easy to set up, holds up really well in bad weather.

The Guide Gear one is pretty good. Tons of room and under $100 on Amazon.

I have one like that too, but it was an Amazon one, can't remember the name. It does setup quickly and seems to hold up. My wife hates it because she has to climb up onto the tailgate to get in, so we usually use our ground tent when she comes along.

I think you have to completely empty your truck bed before you can set it up. This seems like a lot of extra work.

Yes you do. Not bad because everything you bring should be useful and pulled out to use or you shouldn’t have brought it.

I bring guns, fishing gear, ice chests, shovels, and lots of stuff I use and don’t want to unload it just to set up a tent

Nope. Nothing beats a stand alone tent.

Plus you'd have to remove all your gear, wood, axes, fishing gear and anything else you are hauling.

If your in Canada pick up an MEC tent. In the US, grab an REI. Both make fantastic tents for the price. We use both currently.

I always liked the way those tents looked. But what I can’t stand is the straps rub the side of the bed. Add to that, most likely your truck is filthy before doing so. I can’t imagine the paint coming out unscathed.

I don’t have a picture of mine, but I measured and cut up some PVC pipe to make frame and then put a big tarp over it. I put the PVC into the 4 bed corner holes and connected everything using PVC joints and T-joints. I didn’t have to empty the bed to set it up, but I did have to empty it to sleep in it.

I’m including a pic I found online of the concept. It’s not my truck, but it should give an idea of what I’m talking about. Mine wasn’t as tall, though. It worked great the few times I used it, and it was a cheap and easy DIY option. It also took about the same time, if not less, to set up and dismantle as my ground tents.

Forgot to add, I didn’t have to use straps on the fenderwells. I used a big tarp and rope tied the tarp’s corners to stakes on the ground without the tarp even touching the fenders or bedsides. It also rained on me one time and the tarp kept the rain out.

Can't beat the flexibility of PVC and tarps. Had a similar design that protected my bikes at my old apartment. Called it my redneck lean-to.

I like my Napier tent and the straps have padding to help prevent scratches. The straps to go between the tailgate sucks to strap it down and removing everything before setting up. Other than that, I like it. Get a truck airbedz and you’re set. Got my tent from Amazon

What size Airbedz did you go with? I’m 6 foot so my feet will stick out on to the tailgate and I’m trying to account for that lol.

I have the 5.5’ bed. There’s still room in the tent to go with a bigger bed. The tailgate has to be dropped when you put the tent on.

Has anyone tried the ones from Rightline Gear? They look like they could be used without having to take everything out of the bed. Looks like it just sits over your bed rails and doesn't have a floor inside the bed.

I don't recall for sure, but one reason why I chose the Napier Sportz version was that it had a pass-through to the back window of the truck. I ended up getting a RTT for my truck, but that was one of the key differences that I don't believe the Rightline had. Not having a floor though like in the Rightline is nice if you have accessories tied to the track system or bed lighting etc that would be covered by the floor. Just my thoughts anyway.
