After market mufflers/exhaust

What are you guys running? I’ve almost religiously ran Aero Turbine on all my gas or diesel trucks and they sound great. I recently missed out on a deal for a NIB banks kit for $280 but I still think I want to stick to AT because they are cost effective but I’m interested into hearing opinions.

Hard to tell but that sounds better than my magnaflow knockoff. Hard to tell but the video though. I wonder how the drone is

 

I never had any droning problems all the times I ran them. They also make a resonated version (XL series) if you want to play it safe.

 

Spintech Prostreet muffler on stock pipe. No drone, quiet enough when putting through my neighborhood at night but scared the shit out of people when I floor it.

I love my Aero Turbine. A small bit droney on the highway (65-70 mainly), although that could be one of my many exhaust leaks. It SCREAMS once you get over 3000RPMS. Like, one of th best sound exhausts I've ever heard in that rev range. I might eventually do a full tail pipe instead of the side pipe to see if that helps with the drone.

 

I added a Dynomax Ultraflow Weld. It's much deeper than stock, but not loud. I feel for the price I paid, $125 for the muffler alone, it should be louder. I’m not talking glass pack loud though!

After having it on for almost a year I decided to try out Thrush. I found the exact replacement for the Dynomax which is center/dual outlet at Advance Auto for $36.99. After coupon code $31.66. I read that Thrush is exactly like the Flowmaster 40 series. I like that sound on my 2000 Tundra I use to own, so I thought I’d give it a try, especially at that price.

I just got it today so I haven’t had a chance to get it installed.

I just have a flowmaster 40 I scored for free in place of the stock muffler and a straight pipe in place.of the stock resonator. I paid $100 for the local muffler shop to weld it in. I love its sound. Low and not too loud til you step on it. I ended up chopping the tail pipe just after the rear axle with my sawzall a month later.

Eventually I plan to buy a Dirty Deeds exhaust system and some JBA long tube headers for some extra power

 

Jones (aero) turbine 2525XL is what I have on my 2002 and it sounds great. I used to run a banks catback and it droned like a son of gun around 2000 rpm. I’ve been super happy with the Jones as the drone was reduced dramatically. I put the banks on my 2006 and the drone is very tolerable, but that’s because the size of the catalytic converters on the 06 are quite a bit larger so it’s like having 2 more resonantors that suck up most of the noise. I believe Dirty deeds industries mentioned this on another forum/post.

 

That's good to see. I was looking at earo turbine stuff and the cost was a little salty for my taste. The Jones stuff was much more to my liking for a muffler I might not even like.

 

Yep, you can’t go wrong with this muffler. I would also advise anybody with their stock resonator/y pipe to leave it alone. Here is an eBay link to make things easier for anybody interested:

I have JBA shorties running through the stock exhaust on my 2002, and it sounds pretty damn good without being obnoxious.

 

Do you have any videos of it? I’d love to hear it.

I’m still leaning towards the Aero but I’m sure many of us would love to hear/see videos of the setup mentioned here.

I did notice you were a member on here, small world! Aeros have been my favorite and my local guy said he would do it for $200 out the door so I’m leaning towards.

My only concern is I get up at 4:30am in the morning to go to the gym and I don’t want to piss my neighbors off by remote starting it to warm it up. Although, there are a few cars with straight pipes and big cams that lope around in the mornings so maybe I won’t stand out too much.

Pack two miles away and skip the gym. Good cardio getting there and if anybody complains it won't matter because it's not your neighborhood and if someone asks you about it you can just look at them funny and say "I'm just jogging through, I don't live around here".

 

I'll see what I can do. Truck barely has brakes right now so might take a week or two.

 

That's a great idea but I am not built for cardio lol . I got a bad rap when I first moved in there the beginning of February. They learned real quick how a 6.7 Cummins sounds with the exhaust brake running and a 5" straight pipe. It was obnoxious and literally rattled the dishes in our house. I eventually did throw a muffler on it but it was still damn loud. I just don't want to be that guy that pisses off the neighborhood at 4:30am, especially since winter is just around the corner.

 

I'm with you man. Even when I was skinny I wasn't skinny. I'm more of a pack mule than a race horse.

I guess if the exhaust is too loud you can throw a resonator on there.

Why the JBA over the dirty deeds headers? Just curious as I'm really considering doing the full dirty deeds package.

 

I thought the DD headers were JBA?
I plan to buy all I can thru DD. I like to support our venders and since he's the resident speed guru might as well buy from him. I was impressed with his injectors.

I'm not sure. I assumed he "made" the headers. The website doesn't mention them being made by JBA. I've clicked that same link you shared and it doesn't have a price or description.

Yeah I saw that after the fact but that link has no information at all. I don't know what makes that kit different from this one.

I'm curious how his headers are different from the JBA. He claims his are the "only true long tube headers available for the 1st gen Tundra"

 

He said before that he gave his header to JBA as a prototype and they're now producing them.

So designed by Keith and produced by JBA..? It sounds like the horespower gains are only achieved when paired with the exhaust system. Would you re-use 17 year old cat's or just buy his? I don't want any check engine lights and I need to be able to pass inspection if we ever move to another state.
