I had a 14, it was a disaster. I dumped it for a decade old Toyota design. No regrets.

I am a huge fan of my truck getting me from point A to B without any bull. Mine had all sorts of problems. From the A/c to the seatbelt pre-tensioners to random no start conditions and stalling issues. The list goes on and on. I got rid of it at 50k miles. It broke on day one and kept that trend up for 5 straight years.

Happiest moments of My GMC Sierra experience were the day I bought it and the day I Sold it.

That's sad. I felt the same way when I grabbed the Toyota salesman in '94, pointed at my Subaru and said "that's yours, sell me this..." as I pointed to the Hilux V6 4x4 Extended cab. I was just so overdone with hell on that Subaru I didn't care what the trade-in was, I was just done, defeated. I can't believe that a company could sell such shit. And I won't put up with it again. So far, Toyota has been good to me over the decades.

My son-in-law LOVES Subarus, even though the '97 Imprezza he had was always having issues and the 2014 Forester he sold a couple of years ago was burning a quart of oil every 1000 miles with under 50k miles on it. And Subaru refused to fix it. But, this is Subaru country in the Northwest, so he was able to sell it outright to a dealer for $500 less than what he bought it for two years earlier.

I was talking to the owner of used car dealer and he said he won't sell Subarus anymore. He said everyone he picks up at auction gets a new head gasket and has lots of little interior issues to deal with, and he has pay a couple grand more for them than a comparable Honda or Toyota, which don't require anything other than fluid changes and detailing.

He said people are oddly oblivious to the issues Subarus have and he just doesn't want to deal with people getting mad at him because the Subaru he just sold them had something go wrong and they think he must be a con man since Subarus are so perfect.

BTW, you said a Toyota Hi-Lux? In America?

Finally saw one of those in person last Fall, but I was in Japan when I saw it...

Those 2 statements tell me we'd never see eye to eye on this. IMO, that is one of the ugliest trucks I've ever seen and I'll take tried and true over new and improved any day but to each their own. Good luck because if you buy a GM you'll need it ;)

The new half-tons are not bad. They're not all that attractive, but not offensive...

The 3/4-ton and 1-ton pickups, however, are the most hideous looking things I have seen since the Pontiac Aztec. Simply embarrassing.

Took a quick survey of fellow office workers and out of six of us, four think they are hideous and two think they are great. Both of the two that like it are current GM truck owners. So...

We have had two 2010 Silverados in our fleet crap out transmissions in the 100-150K range and leak oil. It is an older body style and tranny but still not a great advertisement. These trucks do not tow or haul either.

I always call the 'pre-Tacoma' a "Hilux" as that's the only name I have ever heard them called. Mine wasn't badged with anything other than Toyota.

I know opinions differ, but personally I think the Silverado Trail Boss LT/Custom is a better looking truck than the Tundra. IMO, you have to black out the Tundra by applying mods just to get all the damn chrome off - which is something I don't look forward to spending time on. The TRD PRO does a good job at blacking out, but that damn spoiler/intake on top of the hood is ugly as hell. I liked the older model that did not have that appearance much better (had the platinum hood).

I test drove a 2019 Tundra Platinum and a 2019 Silverado LT Trail Boss over the weekend. In regards to looks, the exterior of Trail Boss was a thing of beauty and left me giddy. Interior wise, I thought it was a toss up. The Silverado did a much better job at making use of space than the Tundra and was a more spacious cab - front and back. Yet the Tundra Platinum did seem to be more comfortable.

In regards to driving performance, I thought the Trail Boss was a smoother ride and appeared to have a snappier response. As far as the turning off at traffic lights and such, that can be disabled via button in the cab. I did not notice the cylinder deactivation, but I only drove for around 15-20 mins.

If the 6.2L V8 was available in the Trail Boss today, there would be no contest in my opinion - I would buy the Trail Boss, NOW. However, I have no clue when the 2020's Silverado's or Tundras will be available on the lot. If I am patient, then I would say October. I am having the dealer check on when they can start ordering the 2020 LT Custom Trail Boss with 6.2L - not sure I am going to swing this way, as the premium fuel is a concern and I believe the 5.3L is good enough. I just know me - if I buy the 5.3L now, everyday I am going to be saying.. why didn't you wait for the 6.2L!

The Tundra is not off my radar, but after this weekend - I am a step closer to the Trail Boss than I was before. I understand the proven reliability of the Tundra and that keeps her in my thoughts.

Is it just me or are the Silverados slowly trying to look like the Tundra design over last couple years

I keep seeing this, Tundra's are a dated design stuff, as far as I'm concerned, that's all BS, if it isn't broke, don't fix it. I see the modernizing of Ford, Chevy and Dodge and it make me happy to own a Tundra that has stayed with it's style, I'm even happier that mine is a 2007 with no computer screen on the dash, but that's just me as I'm an old guy that happens to like lower tech stuff.

Right, everyone has their opinions, for sure. When Toyota redesigns in 2021, people will love or hate. I guess it all boils down to what one likes, but torpedos be damned, I thinking I am taking a chance with the 2019 LT Trail Boss 5.3 V8 or 2020 LT Trail Boss with 6.2L - decision has not been made yet on engine, but I will most likely be out and into a new truck before any problems arise.

The 2019 does look similar in some regards, except for all the nasty chrome - well in the Trail Boss model anyway.

Even if you don't get the 6.2 (which I highly recommend you test drive as it is a fun engine for a truck) I'd wait until 2020 as GM is ditching the junk 8 speed in the 5.3 and....it gives them a model year to hopefully work out some of the little bugs the 19's are seeing.

It doesn’t require premium fuel. I looked at the owner’s manual which states it’s preferred, but regular fuel can be used. Sort of like the LX570 and the Toyota Land Cruiser where they have the exact same engine, but Lexus prefers the owner use premium gas and the Land Cruiser states regular unleaded is fine. Also, the cylinder deactivation can be turned off by a lever beneath the radio, though it does have to be turned off each time you start up the vehicle. The 6.2 is a beast, and it’s a different feel / ride than the Tundra Platinum. Heavier and smoother with a solid feel, yet the Tundra feels better put together and more basic truck-like. For the new GMC AT4 / Chevy, I think what happens to it after 50-60k miles will dictate where it ranks vs a Tundra.

FYI. I own said vehicle and the switch you are referencing is the deactivation button for the engine stop start feature. The cylinder deactivation can not be disabled without some third party equipment. With that said, I have yet to notice cyclinder deactivation in the vehicle.

I love the truck and have taken it off road and on interstate of speeds close to 100mph. Very smooth and great ride. I am happy with my choice, for sure.

The button you referenced is for turning off the fuel saving feature if the truck is idle at traffic lights and such. It is not like a car where it is very noticeable. It's very quick and smooth when the truck turns back on.

If you put the chevy in manual mode it locks it in v-8, no cylinder deactivation.

Sure. whatever it is. Put the shifter all the way down then use the buttons on the stalk. Put it in highest gear you’d like and it will shift normally up to that gear. That’s how we have to drive them in the sand too.
