I spend a lot of time on my truck so i do audio books this is the current:

 

Nothing but the forum while waiting for SAP or Slow Ass Program to run. When I flew a lot i would read mainly magazines especially Readers Digest. I quit reading novels so I would get some sleep.

 

The FBI's most famous hostage negotiator explains why everything we've been told about how to negotiate is wrong. Plenty of case history examples too.

 

Lost my job in July due to a corporate downsizing...almost 24 years with the company. God has provided a fabulous new career after just 2 months! Very grateful.

Recently, I decided to find out why Hemingway is so celebrated. So far, I've read The Sun Also Rises and A Farewell to Arms, and I'm about to start For Whom the Bell Tolls.

So far, I'm impressed.

I highly recommend Tribe. It’s a fairly quick read but it focuses on the disconnect we have with one another due to the structure of society and relates that to things such as PTSD.

 

Read a lot on my deployments, playing the waiting game at work I read and free time at home. Here are a few: Lions of Kandahar, Level Zero Heroes, Gentlemen Bastards, 13 hours, Back in the fight, Dirty Wars, Seal of God, No easy day, Fearless: the undaunted courage and ultimate sacrifice of a Navy seal, The mission the men and Me, Sapiens a short history of humankind.

Just finished listening to Gregg Jarrett's "The Russia Hoax: The Illicit Scheme to Clear Hillary Clinton and Frame Donald Trump". If you want a deep understanding of what happened, this lays it all out. I thought I was blown away before... holy crap.

Started listening to "Salt: A World History" by Mark Kurlansky. A little dry, but really interesting nonetheless.

after you finish, jump into some faulkner. i'd recommend starting with 'the sound and the fury' and 'as i lay dying'. 'the sheltering sky' by paul bowles fits in there as well.

I just finished listening to Alexander The Great by Philip Freeman. I'll be buying a hard copy of the book for sure. Alexander was a fascinating person and incredible leader. I also want to get my hands on the ancient biography of Alexander that was written by Arrian.

I'm also listening to Valkyrie: The Story of the Plot to Kill Hitler. Written by Florence Fehrenbach, Jerome Fehrenbach and Philipp Freiherr von Boeslager.

On the bookshelf I have The Art of War and Power by Napoleon Bonaparte. It's sitting next to Sun Tzu's The Art of War, which I've read so I'm interested to compare them.

 

I'd add to that list all of the Robert Crais books, especially the Elvis Cole/Joe Pike series.

 

Not sure if its been mentioned but I'm reading "Cant hurt me" by David Goggins, a navy seal. Definitely a must read.

 

Goggins is a freaking animal. I've listened to a couple podcasts with him. Incredible story, incredible human.

finished 'one day in the life of ivan desinovich'. half way through first book of 'the gulag archipelago'. i'd put them on the must read list as it's a piece of history everyone should understand.

also finished 'voices from chernobyl'. it's the book that the hbo series was based on. f'ing haunting.

i'm about to start book 5 of the expanse series. hard sci-fi and it makes me love the Amazon series even more. i'm flipping between it and gulag because gulag is a dense, heavy read.

@smslavin I love Dostoevsky, though I haven't read Brothers Karamazov yet.

 

i’m on a big russian literature kick right now. really enjoying it. i’ve read ‘the master and margarita’ four times now. one of my favorite books of all time and when you think about when it was written, it’s even more amazing.

last time i was in moscow, i discovered a restaurant that was named after the book. didn’t get a chance to eat there so it’s on the list for the next visit.

I ran across this site a few weeks ago looking for an ebook. There is a lifetime full of media there. The book I was looking for is "Predictably Irrational - The Hidden Forces That Shape Our Decisions"by Dan Airely.

 

Got a ton of books for Christmas.

Just finished In Cold Blood by Truman Capote. Now reading The Sentinel by Lee and Andrew Child (Jack Reacher).

 

I truly believe he wrote Mockingbird in her name. The chances of two childhood friends ending up being great writers and one only writing just one book? Na...

 

A far cry from Hemingway or Dostoevsky, but I’ve been sucked into some serious trash my wife has been getting on Audible. Think 50 Shades of Gray and equally filthy. Good for my 40m commute.

Next up is East of Eden.

 

If anybody likes forensics Patricia Cornwell ( Kay Scarpetta series ) are pretty good . She also does the Andy Brazil series .

 

Reading the Jack Ryan series by Tom Clancy, currently on #7: Executive Orders. Great series, but definitely longer reads than most.
