What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

That’s good to hear actually. My Victory sliders flex a lot as well and was very worried about them contacting the pinch. I plan to weld some leg gussets down the road but I feel more comfortable hearing your testimonial.

Agree. I bought the truck for these projects and it’s worked out perfectly. Wish I’d known about that unloader. Unloading 8-10 loads of DG & rock by hand gets old!

 

Finally had a friend weld a new safety chain ring back on since the previous owner must have some how ripped it off. Also put my shackle stinger on...because wintermode

 

Rebuilt my front calipers, they were pretty tore up and a couple frozen. Between the rebuild and some new ebc pads I'm hoping it helps on the braking a bit

 

Mine is missing the left side, one of these years I'll get around to welding a new one.

 

Just filled up my tank. I got 15mpg average. I'm pretty happy with that. I think the longish drive from one end of the valley and back at 75 with no real wind helped quite a bit. I realized when I was about to head home that I was the farthest away from home I'd been since building my front suspension. Kinda funny that was only maybe 30-40 miles haha. Suspension still feels nice, but I still need stiffer coils.

You're faster than me, I've had the truck for almost 3 years now but I also don't tow a trailer too often.

 

Got the new rear shocks in before the bed goes on, and the new rear harness so I can have a functioning trailer harness

 

I would fluid film that frame while the bed is off. What did you decide on the front suspension? 5100's also?

 

Yes on the 5100s, with the arb taco springs. As for the fluid filming I’m not too worried about it. No real plans to drive this in the winter. My cars get by fine for work. (And the gas mileage will kill me)

 

Yeah, I rarely pull our friends camper but between that and renting a dump trailer for some yard projects a few times this summer it was really starting to piss me off. Watch, now I won't tow a trailer for the next year

 

Started hearing an odd knock today. From inside the cab I thought it may be that stupid exhaust manifold but it seems to be coming from the front half of the motor. Can anyone diagnose this?

Blinker fluid flush? Just joking, maybe serpentine belt and idler/tensioner pulleys? Cheap to fix. Mine was making all sorts of noise this spring and when I replaced all of that shit it was quiet.

 

Pull the belt off and feel all the pulleys.

Hell run it without the belt for a minute and see if the noise is gone

 

Sounds like one of the pulleys is going. I agree. Pull the belt off and check all the pulleys.

 

I've had decent luck with spraying the pulley or belt with pb blaster. If you spray and it goes quiet you know it's the belt or a pulley. Diagnosing from there gets more complicated, but at least you know it's there or somewhere else.
Oh blaster isn't going to fox the issue obviously. Just for diagnosis.

 

Looks like I might get past 250 miles with this tank! Wish me luck!

 

@MrDirtjumper if it ends up being the belt tensioner I have that part laying around. I didnt end up using it and I can't return it. If you cover shipping you can have it. I'm tired of looking at it.

I got 299 out of exactly 22 gallons today. Best I’ve seen in a long time.

 

For whatever reason, the Tundra torque gremlins decided to target my fan clutch.
Good news is that I won’t be needing that tensioner.
Better news is that it didn’t cost a dime to fix.
Bad news is that I don’t know how in the hell it happened. But this is what I found when I started digging tonight. I’m surprised the one pictured held on and the other three were loose to the touch. The last time I can picture it being removed would be in 2010 for the timing belt. What made it loosen up all of a sudden?

 

do a timing belt recently? got lucky if those nuts were loose. those fan clutches do some damage if thy come off!

(edit: i totally didnt read the post fully. derp.) those dont typically come loose. any wobble in the clutch hub when it runs?

 

Remove and then reinstall with a little dab of removable thread locker. Hope the threads aren't damaged. Lots of vibration on those bolts since they are holding a giant spinning fan. Glad you found the issue and even more glad you posted it. I hate it when forums have members that just say, yep I fixed it and don't ever update with what the issue or fix was. Thanks.

 

Unfortunately it's that time of year here in the midwest. Took advantage of a beautiful 86° day on September 30th and pulled the boat out of the water. I'm glad we did it then, because it's been in the low 60s since.

Truck got new shoes! Spent a long time reading opinions of tires. This forum and Expedition Portal were super helpful.
Went with Cooper ST Maxx in 235/85/R16.

I know the skinny look is not for everyone, but I like it and I think they actually suit this truck. I dont have the wide TRD fender flares - if I did these might look too tucked in. But without flares the tires seem to match the body lines of the truck.
