I have a 2018 Tundra Limited with the Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) pre-collision alert, pedestrian alert, and radar cruise. A while back ago as many of you know, Toyota issued a recall for moisture getting inside the lens that could cause malfunction. The fix being reseal the lens and perform a ECU update to recalibrate the TSS functionality of the the sensor.

However this has started to to cause quite a few problems within the Tundra community because Toyota says they will not perform the update on any modified vehicles (suspension, etc...)

My truck being lifted since 1500 miles or so from brand new in September 2017, falls into that category. I have reached out to several dealerships with no luck. However I have found one that will perform the update with me signing a waiver saying this is a modified truck and Toyota cannot guarantee the TSS will perform correctly with a lifted truck.

Now I could absolutely care less about the functionality of the TSS system, and it has worked absolutely flawlessly since day 1 in the truck and after the lift. However I do find myself in a bit of a dilemma...

I'm getting ready to supercharge the truck and go with OrangeVirus Tuning once they get everything ready and rolling out smooth after their move to the new shop. They do need the most updated ECU flash in order for it to be tuned. The problem is, I have modified my grill as well, to an aftermarket billet grill and had to essentially take apart the TSS sensor and lens to get it mounted onto the aftermarket grill. They will not touch anything with an aftermarket grill (waiver or not)

So the only solution I have come up with is simply changing back to a stock Toyota grill. However I will need to purchase a new grill, the TSS lens, and the actual TSS sensor (behind the lens) because my sensor and lens is beyond recoverable.

Does anyone know the part number for the lens and the actual sensor? I'm having a hard time locating it. Yes I know this is ridiculous and an expensive as hell route to just get a damn ECU flash, but I'm out of options. Unless someone knows a way to get me the update with an aftermarket grill.

    Thanks in advance...

Ok I’m still new and don’t know how to tag a thread but there’s one called
“Ultimate OEM parts thread” which has the items you are looking for.
@Roman is the parts master, he can certainly get you hooked up.

You know anyone else in Denver with a tundra that will swap with you for the day to get it done?

That is a very good idea that I haven't thought of....any takers??

Currently waiting on a call back to see if they are able to perform the update on a 2019 TRD PRO grill on a 2018 Limited. First response was if it's not on an original TRD PRO, it's a no-go. After a little more investigation he thinks it may be possible...as I'd prefer to go with the PRO grill. Can't believe all this B.S.

Oh well, gotta pay to play

I have a 2018 Tundra sport and I swapped to the older pro grille and my dealership performed the update with zero issues.

Did you try Groove? About to call them to see what can be done about mine. 2018 with 17 pro grille and relocation bracket....except my TSS is actually failing. When it rains mine says it’s dirty, turns off and then randomly glitches for a week and then works again.

Yes, Groove is the Dealership that will do the update for me...not sure about a 2017 grill
