Toyota batteries suck... confirmed.

Went camping Labor Day weekend and had the 2 year old battery completely die on me. Luckily we weren’t in a remote area, and had a buddy with me that could give me a ride to a nearby auto store. Would have been a disaster otherwise.

Over 41/2 years old and going strong

 

Mine lasted just short of 3 years but the truck is parked 90% of the time so not too bad I guess. Dealer warrantied it so no big deal. Any battery can fail.... Carry a Microstart or a Noco and you'll be gtg. I carry both when I know I'll be remote with no other rigs to rely on for a jump if needed.

 

2-3 years is the norm for traditional liquid cell batteries.

Most don’t realize they do require maintenance too though. You have to check the water levels periodically. If not, you drastically reduce the life span.

 

Mine “dead called” yesterday. 2 years and 1 month old. Couldn’t even jump start the truck with it hooked up. Had to throw in a friends battery to get it going and get to the parts store.

It’s too bad the Tundras don’t come stock with the Panasonic batteries my FJ came with. That battery survived the phx AZ heat for 7.5 years. Those things are amazing but not imported on their own last I checked.

 

My truck just hit 4 years and 116k miles and i have the original battery..

 

Mine lasted 2 1/2 years and 30k miles almost to the day. I got Toyota to replace it for free but I will definitely be getting an AGM when this one dies.

 

My battery failed when the truck was 13 months old and Toyota replaced it. Now I'm at 14 months on the replacement battery.....guess what my next mod will be.

 

Just put a Toyota battery in my son’s Tahoe with a lifetime warranty. Not a bad deal for $175.

 

Not a toyota, but for reference my stock 2015 civic battery died in about ~2 years down here in SoCal

 

My Toyota battery lasted about 4 & 1/2 years. I changed out with Walmart battery (EverStart) which lasted one year (they gave me the full refund though). Interstate battery lasted about 3 years. I am on the second set of Interstate now. Overall, I think Toyota battery is darn good.

 

The wifes battery is starting to crap the bed too. its in a '16 runner. I guess its just par for the course with Toyotas these days. my taco's first battery lasted 6 years before I finally killed it with a heated seat left on in 5* weather for a few nights.

 

My wife has a 16 T4R also and the battery is still going strong. Makes me a little nervous after mine shit the bed. I keep a lithium jump starter is both vehicles now. Saved my bacon when my battery died.

 

My Toyota battery lasted 6 years - and I never did any maintenance.

 

Yep, she's used hers twice now. That little jump starter has definitely come in handy
