Ball joint vs uniball UCAs?

So I'm looking at buying upper control arms I just installed 6112 and 5160 I do not do much off-roading but plan on to a few trips a year going out to do some Trails what do you guys recommend as far as the difference between uniballs and the ball joints what are the differences

 

I saw some JBA UCAs this weekend, they were pretty cool since they use a stock type replacement Toyota ball joint.

 

Where did you see them?

 

Up at the San G event this weekend.
@Tundyfundy has them. He really likes them. Although there are plenty of other options that are awesome as well. But I did like that the ball joints are OEM.

Hahahahaha sorry didn’t get any pics of his a arms. But for what you want to do they seem like a nice choice. Hopefully some others can chime in. I’ve seen the icon up close and those are really beefy looking.

I have the SPC UCAs and love them. Ball joints are easily replaced if one fails, the are sealed and grease able. I gain articulation, alignment adjustability, and more clearance from the tire.
As far a trail repair, the SPC is 1 bolt.
The uniball UCAs need a press.
Uniball fails on trail= expensive tow.
SPC fails on trail = about 30 mins of wrenching.

 

Any trouble getting a alignment shop knowledgeable enough to get them dialed in?

 

I didnt have any issues. I just used Pepboys.

 

I have Camburg balljoint UCAs. Girlfriend has Camburg Uniball UCAs and the uniball squeaks enough I figured I'd try the ball joint version when I got mine. No complaints and they look dope.

 

Why those over camburg ball joint?

 

I love them, Easy replacement of ball joint when needed and easy grease zerks on the bushings and ball joints. Price point was right on. They ball joint is less maintenance than the uni-ball (at least thats what I read, ive never owned uni-ball). For the price and what it sounds like you use I think you would be happy with JBA.

 

I can get the Camburg for 540.00 to my home......would you say that's a good price compared to the jba?

 

I have no answer for you. I heard that uni-balls get more performance as they articulate further but will require more maint. The JBA Style doesn't give as extreme performance but its an easy to maintain and cheap to replace since it uses a standard design of bal joint. Im sure an expert will chime in here but I can only vouch for the JBA's.

 

I think I paid about the same for JBA.

To be perfectly honest youll probably be happy with any upgraded a arms as long as they are quality companies and products.

 

I was originally looking at the Zone off road made by BDS and they are 100.00 cheaper but I figured go with a good known company

 

Also JBAs come red like in the picture so if you dont want them red youll have to coat them.

Does anyone know where I can get the best price for the Camburgs?

 

I like all of the red on the front end. At some point I'll probably go with the Toytec Boss kit. Already have the TRD front sway bar and just painted my calipers. Haven't decided on JBA or SPC arms yet.....which I would have to paint the SPCs.

 

Same here I have everything red which to me the Jba look nice but I think that's a little to much red for myself in the same spot

 

@Rica25 You're the perfect example of why we offer our ball-joint version upper arms. For the occasional off-roader looking to correct and improve geometry, improve handling and upgrade from the OEM stock arms while keeping the cost down and not buying something more expensive they don't really need. The actual ball-joint costs less than the uniball equivalent, so that's where you're seeing majority of the cost difference, not from cutting corners somewhere. Ball-joints are less maintenance, are a familiar part auto shops & mechanics know how to service and maintain and it's completely sealed from the elements unlike a uniball or delta-joint for customers in wet, muddy or snow conditions. When it comes time to replace the BJ it's easy and readily available from any auto parts store. We recommend the stronger uniballs arms for more serious off-roaders and/or when running extended length coilovers from FOX and King that get maximum wheel travel compared to Bilstein 5100/6112 setups.

Unless you want the stronger uniball arms, save the $100 difference and use that towards gas and beer on your next offroad trip.
