I will definitively look into this. I called the dealer today and asked how much they charged to get another fob and key (2 separate items). They told me the price and I told him I appreciated his help but I had already talked to a locksmith that did the programming and sold the fob and key and they were much cheaper. The dealer then gives me this story about after market items and should the locksmith program my key wrong and enter it in the computer as a valet key, and then if I lost the original key, it would cost me a lot more to have them re make a key for the truck. I just told him I would take my chances. LOL. But he did say, that with my truck you have to have the fob and the key. Will ask the locksmith I talked to and maybe check around for other locksmiths to see what they say. Thanks for this information. I would truly rather just have one thing (a key with the fob on it) to put in my pocket.

The locksmith will tell you how many non-valet keys can be programmed at once. I'm willing to bet it's more than two. Spring for an extra key and put it somewhere safe. If you lose a key, buy a new one, go back to the locksmith, and have them all reprogrammed. That will invalidate the lost key and if someone finds the key, they can't use it to start the truck.

Called 2 locksmiths. They too said my truck has a fob and a key. Can't get one key with the fob on it. So guess I will be getting both a key and a fob. Which is no problem. Just want to get a second set of keys to the truck.

@Texas Girl You and I have the same year truck. I purchased the flip key and fob from Amazon and a mobile locksmith is coming out in an hour to cut and program. It will cost me $65. My dealership told me that they can do it, but they could only get it down to $75 to cut/program. I am not sure what your dealership is telling you. The flip key in the unit is only a blank key and needs to be cut. I ordered the one from Amazon because it was listed for a Toyota Tundra key and made for our year using the "G" key.

IF it was up to me, I would order whichever one (flip key/fob) you feel comfortable ordering. I like Amazon due to the return policy. I would take the key/fob with you to Home Depot and have them cut the key. I believe they have the MinuteKEY system. They basically insert your truck key into the machine, which copies your key and then they insert your new blank that cuts it. Then take your fob to a reputable locksmith (Yelp helps) and ask how much to program the fob to your truck key or fob. If your system is like mine, you have a key and a fob. It is the long way around and may cost you a bit more, but it can be done. If you tell me what city you are in, I will ask my Locksmith if he has any references for you. Good luck

The only thing I'm sure of is somewhere in a galaxy far far away there is a gigantic pile of extra keys and fobs that go "missing" when you buy a used truck hence why you always get one key.

$43 for the remote on Amazon and $65 for a mobile locksmith to cut and program.

@DireWolf ......Do you have a G or H key? The Amazon ad had it listed for my year and the programmed for the 'G' key. Hope this helps.
