Picked up a pair of cheap pliers...... for FREE!

My luck sucks right now. LOL. I had just washed my truck at the local carwash. Then as usual, I drive a couple roads to dry it off some. While traveling on this side road at about 30 mph, I hear a fumbp. Thup,thup,thup,thup ..... you get it. It sounded like the tread had ripped off or was rolling flat. I slow down and pull into the grocery store to find that I'm the lucky new owner of some cheap pliers. My truck has 6,400 miles on it. Now here's my real problem. Do I get AT3 LXT's for my factory 20's, roll my 295's on TRD 18's( which are going to rub as I'm still stock height) or get 275's for the 18's. I have Coaches +3's sitting on the shelf with some shims. Haven't decided on a lift yet. I was pleased with the 5100's I had on my '14. But been reading about some others 6112's , fat Bob's, etc. Can't make up my mind and my son is suppose to use my truck for homecoming in less than a week.

 

That sucks. Not the way to get free tools

 

love the look of 295s on TRD 18s, but didn't know they'd fit on stock height. I feel like i've seen most people doing the bilsteins at a minimum to fit them, no?

I picked up a spark plug wrench that comes with your weed eater the same way. Freaking sucked.

 

On 18,s 285 is the most you can go with out suspension mod 99% sure also 99% sure those are my pliers. Because I am frugal not cheap I have been waiting for my stock tires to wear out. This would have expedited my purchase of new tires.

wth..295/70/18 ! make it fit.

 

They fit but not without rubbing the front corners of the skid plate at full lock. And I think the sway bar if it's into the skid. So for now, I can turn my wheel full minus 1/2 to 3/4. Think of it this way. Whichever way you turn, imagine the top of the steering wheel passing 9 o'clock or 3 o'clock just stop at the 2nd time it reaches 9 or 3. No rub. Also there is only about a 1/4" between the control arm and back of the tire. This will work for now but I'm gonna lift. I loved the look of the 295's on my old truck and this one. Just didn't like the mileage with or without pulling my trailer. Thinking of doing 275/70/18's again or the closet equivalent in 20's. Price of 18's are more attractive then the price of 20's too.

 

Definitely keep those pliers if they're serviceable. That's a story.

Ya, I don't see how the did that either. I'm almost wondering if someone positioned them over a drain or something. But like I heard along time ago , you'll get nails in your back tires versus front. Because the front flips them up and your back catches it.

 

Forgive my newbie knowledge of tire/rim configurations on what works, and what doesn't. I'm sure it must get very tiresome answering the same old questions. After just purchasing my TRD Sport less than a Month ago, I'm already thinking about what to do when these Bridgestones wear out and want to go to something a little more aggressive, but without a body lift/ leveling, and keeping the stock 20" rims for now. I really like the look of your truck Terry in the last pic. I could live with the stock rims for awhile till i save up a bit, and confirm my wife won't divorce me..(Which i heard is expensive). So to my question, what is the best all around, not that noisy, A/T tire that will fit on a stock 20" rim without modifications. Thanks in advance.

If got the titanium package when u bought the truck then u can have it replaced free of charge

 

If you're talking about extended warranty, I passed on them this go around. I knew I wouldn't reach up miles like my old truck and will most likely trade maybe a yr or 2 after the new Tundra comes out.

 

No the titanium package is a separate package I think I for it for $500 after I kept saying I dont want it ..covers tires for life and windshield also dents and replacement keys and tow side assistance..I already made my money back I also ran over something a wood chip about 6 inches long got my tire replaced and got my dental fixed

 

Well the STT Pros are not a quiet tire. I had ST Maxx's 275/70/18 on my old truck. They were quieter but still a little louder than factory. I got about 60k miles out of them and still had enough tread to make them worth selling with my old TRD wheels. I'm looking at the AT3 LXT's or maybe the ridge grapplers. RG's look like they wouldn't be too annoying.

 

Ok. I don't believe I paid for anything extra. The guy was not good at his job trying to upsell me .lol

 

Gentlemen. I will be the first to state that this is one of the greatest schemes ever developed by a man to justify to his significant other that he needs a lift and tires.

Back road. Mmmmhmmm. No witnesses. About 30mph. Mmmmhmmm. Already has backup solutions developed and ready to go. Mmmhmmm. Son needs to look fly rolling into Homecoming. Mmmhmmm.

Thank you. LOL but I can't take credit for this "scheme" . Really though, I don't know if I can get a front lift ordered, received, installed by me and aligned before the end of the week. I've got to work too. I am my own boss (custom cabinets) though,but now that wouldn't be responsible of me to put off work to mod my truck. If would be for a good cause though.

 

Next time go to the pawn shop (eBay) for cheap tools.

 

I guess if you believe someone planted it there for you to run over then you could also believe crazy stuff like only getting nails in your back tires.

I didn't say I believed that. That's just what I was told when I was little. As far as someone setting them up, that was just a possible theory not a belief.

 

Every nail puncture I've ever had was on a back tire.

 

I thought I had bad luck with all the screws I’ve got recently, but I was wrong. You’re the guy with bad luck, never seen anything like that.

 

Replaced the RF tire on my tundra because it had a nail in the shoulder.

That is a bad day for sure. I was driving through my hay field after it was cut and baled and a large thorn from some wicked bush stuck in my sidewall of my new Terra Graps. Had to get a new one.
