1st Gen Slider Options

So here's the deal, Im from Columbia, SC but currently in Denver/Parker, CO area. I Had a shoulder surgery and my better half and I decided while I dealt with the 6 month recovery and while we have no kids we should travel and see the country, and what an absolutely amazing experience it is to be able to do this. Im through the recovery now and have been fortunate enough to link up with several fab shops and im currently with Olyumpus Offroad who is allowing me to use his shop for my fabrication needs. I will be in Colorado for a couple more months but Daniel and I are currently working on a 4400 ultra4 chassis and it needs to be done by SEMA so im planning to be here until at least mid November. Im booking jobs currently and he has allowed me to have a few trucks at the shop. I just cant make it look like a ford mechaninc shop

I don't have a website as I never fully opened an LLC or business back home, I work solely through social media and local word of mouth back home and never needed the exposure of a webpage as well, although I do intend to get a site going at some point. My intent is to do that when I return back east sometime next year so I wont be fully done fabricating once I leave here and also hope to make it to another shop at every location we stop at so I can continue doing this. I also offer mobile fabrication so if im near you and you need some sliders welded up or a bench repaired etc I can do that too. my tundra is pretty well equipped for most stuff.

I stopped by a local 4x4 shop today to inquire about sliders. They don't custom fab their own anymore and were trying to push this kit on me. I've never heard of this company. They would make it work for my truck apparently.

I then asked how much they would charge to weld on a set of sliders and they said $400-500. That seems insane to me. They claimed it would be 1-2 hours to "prep the frame" then a few more to install.

I'm about to say screw it and just order armor for now and worry about sliders later. The lack of aftermarket parts for our trucks is frustrating.

 

Holy cow yea that's insane. Maybe an hour if your doing it alone and having to mock them up to figure out where to grind the frame. $200 tops to weld sliders on.

As for the trail fail sliders if you go with those add an extra leg vs the 3 and I'd change the frame plates/gussets out as well. Imo I like the frame plate to wrap under the frame and the gusset to span 4-5" minimum of the slider leg

You're right, we don't have a lot of aftermarket support for our trucks. And the ones that do offer them, it takes forever to get them. Going on 8 weeks for my bumper and 7 for my sliders.

 

Im located in san diego, i have 1 set for sale and can make more, requiring a deposit now.
I really think these are the best option available for the double cabs.
Only true bolt-on version. Uses factory holes, no drilling. 10 1/2in dia grade8 bolts per side.
Only sliders with a huge frame plate for strength. Loads are dispersed out not concentrated. Tig welded
Many sliders have only 4 frame spars, mine have 6. I see many sliders without gussets spar to frame, huge stress riser.
Overall, i did a lot of research and figured i could build my own way better than whats out there. Theyre almost overkill, but im from desert racing background haha.

Finally got around to installing my WK sliders!
So far so good , haven't had a chance to really try them out off-road yet.
Went with a Hammered Black paint

You're going to have to drill 3 on each side for the DC

That's one of the reasons I went with WK was to pick up local. It was a 6 week lead time for me.

 

Well I planned to use the sliders today and tell you guys how great they are, but we never touched them. At least they look good

 

My wife keeps telling me to "hurry up and buy sliders". Who am I to argue with her? She needs help getting into the truck. I'm just not sure which ones I want to get.

Anyone have a strong opinion on .120" vs .188" DOM?

 

Nice I like that they dont stick out real far.

 

If you adjust frame spar lengths, any sliders can fight tight to the body or a little wider like a running board step. Just ask the fabricator if they can do it for ya.

And ide say .120 is fine for everything but the big sq tube, my very first set of sliders the 2x2 was .120 wall, and didnt like the ammount of deflection when i picked up the 'free' end of my sliders with the forklift. Wasnt much but enough i wanted something stronger. I have a good length cantilevered at the end, which isnt the case for many other sliders, since the spars are more even across the whole length, but i have to keep my spars on the frame plate.
The .188 2x2 also prevents warp when welding everything up, its pretty damn stout. I wanna say an 8ft length(what i cut mine at) is around 40lbs and accounts for half the weight of the sliders.

 

I'm assuming you've only got a set to sell for the Double Cab, not an access cab?

 

Unless you planning to slam your sliders every weekend .120 is sufficient

 

Unfortunately yeah, the frames are similarly made but stuff is spaced different laterally. Brackets, rivets etc
