What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Went and saw the truck again today.. completely forgot to grab pictures. But she’s in full primer. Pretty much ready for paint. The door jambs and all are primered.

 

Yup, 2nd set. The seal is for the steering shaft through the firewall.

Sounds like you crossed some wires or something. Have you tried hitting the undo button on the recent backup camera install and checking that your sound works again?

Also, check to see if you blew a fuse maybe?

What happened to the 1st set? What brand did you go with this time? I was leaning towards Wheelers.

 

Not sure. This was the first time I took it out the box.

 

I'll have to pull er apart.again tomorrow and check. I'm done for the day. I can't even right now lol

 

The first set was also black.

Both sets were from Wheelers. The first set had some interference in one of the lines. Could feel it in the line and made a weird sound when applying the brakes. Now it’s gone. Go with Wheelers.

 

so sorry man. These audio components of the 1st gens suck major ballz. The previous owner of mine did something with like 12 sets of speaker wire from the amp up to the stereo and then into a BT parrot device as well with his aftermarket stereo. I was luckily able to trouble shoot it and get a new deck working. I think he actually bypassed the back seat amp but without using that Metra wire set somehow...it mainly works so I aint touching it!

 

I built the sound system from the ground up on my 99 taco and I never ran into a single issue. This truck has tested my sanity lol

 

Should be a connector behind the radio that has a reverse wire. I just tinned the wire from the radio and stuck it in the connector and taped it up.

Ordered new leaf springs today. Ouch on the wallet, but it’s going to feel so much better, and hopefully take away my driveline shudder.

what does everyone use their stake pockets for? any tie downs that fit them good?

I guess I didn't know they had a name lol. My tacos didn't have em. I can't recall if my ranger did or not. My front ones are covered by the tool box. Rear ones have plastic covers. I attempted to run my rear diff breather into on but it didn't work out.

 

most smaller trucks dont have them that i know of.
the open holes drive me nuts. thinking tie down points would be nice to have. but i dont know if they fit

 

I'm pretty sure I've seen aftermarket things you can stick in there. They have hooks that can pop up or sit flush

 

fitment is my thing. i'll order some on Amazon when the trucks back and if they dont fit return them.
the pockets in the tundra just dont look the same as the ones on our f-350 so i dont know if its a universal thing or theyre all different

 

I cant see mine because my cap covers all 4, but I'd think they were disigned to fit a 2x4. That's always been the case with domesic trucks.

 

My access cab "doesn't have them". There's a plastic bed rail cap that covers them it they are there. I looked briefly when first got the truck, thought huh, guess not & promptly installed a trifold bed cover ending the question.

If they are there - the Tundra was to compete w/ American trucks, so they should be standard bed stake pocket sized.
I bought chromed tie-downs for my F250, the part that went into the pocket was a sprung bit like a wall anchor base. Inert into hole & tighten down to grip - it would have worked in a variety of pocket sizes. But they quickly started to rust - so I'll suggest you oil or wax anything you install, don't want to ruin your new paint.

 

@NUDRAT they're there, you should have little squares that pop out of the bed rail covers to expose them.

How do you pull a steering wheel?

 

Haven't done it on a Tundra but disconnect neg battery and look for release clips on the sides or back of the wheel. There should be at least 2 to release the airbag. Be really careful pulling that and disconnecting the wires to it, you dont want static electricity.

Then you'll see a nut holding your wheel to the shaft. Make a mark at a point on the shaft that is identifiable by the wheel, looks like the side near the screws would be a good move. Then undo the nut, swap wheel, align to markings, reassemble. Be real careful about clipping the airbag back in. When you connect the neg cable again close your eyes and cross your fingers.
