Glad you made home ok. Really sucks for your uncle.
My brother in Crosby had higher water than ever, water up to house, not inside though thank God.
Not many issues in our area.

Your uncle around here? Our church mucked our a lot of flooded houses after Harvey. I’m sure we could get something together if he’s in the area.

He’s a couple of miles from me. There’s plenty of help for them here, but thank you for the offer. I’m hoping he just got a couple of feet, so we’ll just have to do some sheet rock and floor cleaning. They got almost 7 feet last time and had to gut everything.

Yes sir, it was down quite a bit this morning. The road I came in on is clear. It’s just the spots closet to the lake now. I wouldn’t have been able to get to my uncle’s house yesterday.

For reference, my uncle’s house is about 80 yards from the bayou, and probably ten feet above it? Basically across the street from him is a big slope going down towards the bayou.

When my wife and I got married, we lived at this spot. The house I circled is actually on stilts. Or old house was where that one is, but not on stilts. It would’ve fit under it.

We flooded out in 94 and didn’t move back in.

That happened in 94. It took a year to fix.

That is horrible. I believe I would move this time. Does he at least have flood insurance?

Yes. It’s required now. I doubt they’ll even consider moving. That house is long paid for.

Not sure of the details, whether it was a city / county ordinance, or a requirement after getting fema help before, but all the homes within a certain distance of the lake have to carry it.

Or maybe I’m 100% full of shit. I just remember them all having to get it at some point.

I just looked it up. It’s required if you have a mortgage and live in a high risk area. I may have been thinking of when they started requiring insurance companies to sell it to them. Back in the day they wouldn’t sell it to them.
They don’t have a mortgage, but do have it.

I know I'm getting older when all my friends and wife are saying "Omg I can't believe those kids, they're gonna break their leg and then what?!". And I'm over here like "Yeah!", while secretly thinking "That woulda been me." The underpass has about a 15' clearance.

Surprised you stayed dry, most of denham and walker was underwater. Even a good part of G town and St Amant towards port Vincent (where I was) was done for.

Guess you followed the adage, build high stay dry! LOL

When going thru flooded roads watch out for storm manhole lids that have come off due to surcharging. Would really suck to drop a tire down in a manhole and fuck everything up.

I hate to say it but the I-12 “sea wall” at Juban rd. is probably the reason I stayed dry.

Damn that's some serious flooding. I hope your house, cars, and everything are okay. Floods are so scary to me because of the unpredictable nature of that much water.

I'm convinced some of these people are committing insurance fraud so they can get a new vehicle. I refuse to think people are so dumb that they would beleive their Honda Accord is part submarine.

I watched a guy drive his accord through water that was coming halfway up his doors. Naturally, it died. He immediately got out and took a picture of it before leaving. This had to be intentional.

You guys may be right. Along with the Durango and Charger I posted the other day, there were three more right by my house when the water went down. The Durango and Charger were in the place I went through, these three were at the other end that I didn’t even think about trying.
