    2017 Tundra Sr5 5.7 Double Cab 4x4
2017 double cab sr5 Tundra here.

I know this gas been discussed before, my apologies in advance.

In the process of getting rid of my 20” wheels to 18” wheels. ( what kind of tires do y’all recommend?)

    Most importantly, Do I need to;
Add a tuner and reprogram the transmission, ABS control unit and the engine?

Has anyone done this with or without doing the above?

No, the total diameter of the wheel and tire should still be the same

I went from the stock 20" wheels on my 19 TRD Sport to some used TRD OffRoad 18" wheels. I put 275/70/18 tires on so not stock TRD OR size and still did no reprogramming afterwards.

    I really like my Cooper AT3 XLT's.

I have done the same swap on two Platinum models now, a 2017 and now a 2020 model.
In my case both times I bumped the tire size a little but it's really not a big deal. I went with 285/65/18s, that is about as large as you can go on most aftermarket rims since most 18" aftermarket rims are 9" wide and have typically a +20 0r +18mm offset. If running a Toyota 18"rim with the standard +60 offset, you could bump the size up a little more. Mine are so close to the OEM diameter, its never been an issue.

Here is a link to a tire size calculator that can tell you what 18" tire has the same circumference as a 20" tire:

I was literally going to start the same thread.

I'm assuming I need to buy TPMS Sensors as well? Rims I'm looking at are from a 2018 TRD Off Road, I have a 19 Platinum.

What would be great if i could find someone to trade with...

It's much easier to just have the current sensors taken out of your OEM wheels and switched over. Those suckers are expensive.

Understand that but would the 20” platinums be worth far less? Or would I still be able to get a good price for them?

For reference - I got $700 for my sport wheels and tires with 1000 miles on them and no sensors. Took more than a month though to get that much. I think I listed them for $900 and got a handful of $500 offers.

I’m noodling around just waiting the two years or so to burn through the tires, then just picking up the TRD 18” rims then...

I’m wanting to improve ride and gas mileage.
Not sure what size tires I need to buy once I get the 18” wheels.

The 20" Platinum wheels are not all that popular. I got $500.00 for mine last week. Mine were brand new take offs from my 2020 Platinum.

Sensors didn't effect the value at all, mine from a 2020 Platinum would not have been compatible with anything other then likely another 2020 platinum which would have already had the same wheels and tires on it.

If the 2018 TRD wheels your buying already have sensors in them for a 2018, they are the same sensors used in 2019 and (2020 only with keyed ignitions).
Meaning you don't have to have them dismounted or swapped out. You can simply install them and follow relearn instruction in the owners manual. Basically push a button on the lower portion of the dash by your right knee. The 2018-2020s can relearn compatible sensors without special tools or special programming.

That's not really likely, improving the ride would likely be meaning your increasing the rolling resistance, which would be somewhat required if attempting to improve the ride via a tire change. Which added rolling resistance would not really help your fuel mileage, might hurt it a little. If you stick with a P-metric (4ply tire ) Like the ones that Toyota puts on them from the factory, you can easily change from 20 to 18s or the other way around with minimal or negligible change to the fuel mileage. If you go with a larger more aggressive tire and up it to a 10 ply as many of us do, you can expect less mileage and possibly a stiffer ride.

Crap! Didn’t even think about sensors!!!
How much are sensors for a 2017 SR5 double cab 4x4?
What other model sensors fit my truck?

Depends, Oem sensors can get pretty pricey somewhere around $150-250.00.
Aftermarket sensors which generally work just like the OEMs and cost a lot less, would run you around $80-100.00.

I just put 275/60/20 Dueller A/T RH-S on my 16 Tundra and can't be more pleased...about 1" taller and perfect speedometer! No mods necessary.

Bought it used with what appears to be a leveling kit up front. so for a street truck it has a mean look. y son bought a 2018 and his is still nose down...we need to level it.

If you have 20s...you look should consider 275/60s. Unless ur off roading, I would stick with leveling kit. Has a slightly more aggressive look and still fits in my garage

To echo was everyone else has said, you don’t need to do anything special unless your SIGNIFICANTLY changing the tire diameter. Use the conversations mentioned. Also, to recommend a tire, your typically usage would be helpful to know. I would expect a drastic rise quality difference either way, unless your talking 10 ply high load rated tires vs P rated.

Of note, where the hell is everyone selling these these 500$ sets of take off 20”?!? I’ve been searching for a set of sport 20” take offs and every ad I see in Georgia people want 1000+.

I swapped the 20" on my Limited DC for 18" TRD black rims when I bought my 2018. Same size so no changes to stuff BUT turns out the 18's use a different frequency for the TPMS system. After swapping, the dealer ended up having to swap the sensors.

    I believe they are 20x8 +60s
I checked a couple Ebay listings they would seem to agree with me on the 20x8 size.
