So far so good, have not had a chance to really try them out off road yet.
Their very well made tho and heavy as hell so I don't doubt they'll hold up a very long time.

 

Thank you! The brand is Softopper, you can find their stuff here: https://www.softopper.com. It is by far my favorite addition to the truck. You can roll up the sides and rear and just have it as a top canopy, or completely collapse it down against the rear window like a boat canopy if you need to use the whole bed space (I transport my motorcycle in the back). I keep it up most of the year, as I built a sleeping platform and go camping under there a good amount. It ran me about $850. I can't recommend it enough!

For my weak V6, that would be pretty nice!

 

The door cords are easy, the inside door handle is a little tricky but once you get that off you’re all set, they have a peg that lines up and then a slot for the rest of the cable

 

@Acatlin96 ...Very nice looking truck and with a new suspension. Jealous. As to the topper, I too like it, but I live in a rain forest, in the land of rain, and wonder how that fabric would deal with the near constant rain of fall, winter and spring. Is it waterproof, or water resistant? It seems to me to be a little expensive but I haven't priced any toppers for some time. I really favor the ability to fold it back with such ease when you need the bed, and a top or sides would normally be in the way. The reason I don't have a hard shell already is that I often haul my pontoon boat in the back during fishing season and need it open. Yet when I shop I could really use a top to protect my stuff from the weather. Then there is the lifting and positioning of any hard shell, but only when my son is around to help me - not convenient. The more I think about it, the more I want one.

 

Thank you for the compliments! Yes, rain is one of the most common questions I get in regards to the Softopper. I live in Southern California, so that was not really even a thought for me when I bought it. However, this last winter saw some pretty heavy storms in my area and I was able to see how well it stood up to heavy, persistent rainfall. I would say the topper is 98% waterproof. The fabric itself is coated, so it sheds water completely. However, during prolonged rain events, it can slightly leak from the interior straps that are sewn into the seams (I'll have to get you a picture tomorrow so you can see what I'm talking about). Also, small amounts of rain can enter through the front window of the topper where it meets the bed rail when you're driving at highway speeds (again, I'll grab a pic for you tomorrow). The topper comes with seam sealant, but I didn't see the need to apply it as I usually get so little rain. Those who have applied it get positive results, so that would bump up the weatherproofing to 99%. Overall, if you're trying to keep like paper products dry during rain, I would look somewhere else. But if you can manage some slight drops of rain getting through, and even then only on occasion, this topper is perfect.

I never really considered a hard topper, as I need the flexibility of folding it down quickly and single-handedly. But I looked at a few for cost comparison, and most camper shells were double the cost of the Softopper. The used market is getting more and more limited for our trucks, so you'll have to take that into consideration too. The big draw of the Softopper for me was the ease of removal and configurability. Also, it looks pretty awesome.

Anyone have a suggestion for removing a stuck caliper piston? It got rusted in and I finally got it to rotate (with a pipe wrench and in a vice) but it won’t come out of the caliper. Not sure how to remove it now.

 

Hammer it out.

 

Care to elaborate? Been hitting it with chisel and hammer on the lip but it’s not budging.

 

Got an air compressor? See if it'll pop out with a shot of air through the line fitting.

If it was me I'd go throw $50 at a reman caliper and call it a day.

 

Yeah, air has worked for me in the past.

 

Tried and no dice. Damn thing is stuck. A new caliper is the next step, just hate to spend more if I don’t have to. Going to take to a shop this morning and hopefully they can work their magic.

 

Damn, air even worked on the rusted pistons in my 72 Duster. It might be more work than you want to do but you can cut a slit in the piston and try to use a pry bar or flat bar to get more leverage in the vice.

 

I’ve had one stuck like that. Little bit of heat and some kroil she came right out.

 

My air supply isn't the greatest (10lb tank) so might have not been strong enough. That is the next step, luckily I had some old 4runner calipers laying around that have the same piston so I didn't have to salvage this one.

That helped get it to spin (with a pipe wrench), but wouldn't budge outward. It's at a shop now and will be checking on it soon.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. Tried to do my nephew a favor replacing his brakes and it's turned into a 3 day project, go figure.

I still need to run the camera wire from dash to tailgate. Unsure how I'm going to do that. Also need to tap into the reverse signal wire. But I'm taking a break for now.

 

I thought you meant it was stuck on the rotor. Hammer it out and replace it.

But you are actually trying to get the piston out.
Not worth rebuilding. Replacement is better

 

I'm with you on not spending money if you can avoid it. But I would imagine the labor cost at the shop will be higher than a reman caliper delivered to your door.

 

Hello everyone! New here, but Im usually on T4R.org daily. I have a 2010 4runner that I’ve built up with ideas from there. Hopefully I can learn and contribute to this forum.
I picked this up today;
It’s an 06 DC sr5 Trd. It’s got brand new 5160s and 6112s, toyo OC on method wheels. I’m wanting to do long tube headers and full exhaust, costal offroad rear bumper and do my own bedliner. I’ll look more thru the 100$ mod section for more ideas!

Should I fit more grease in it before I throw it on?

New steering rack, hole cover seal, front brake lines and carrier bearing in preparation for the road trip. Waiting on SPC cam bolt kit for a proper alignment. FYI, S/T Maxx tires are a bitch to balance! Ditching them for Toyo R/T’s next go around.

 

I installed my camera and now my sound doesn't work and my camera doesn't turn on whether in reverse or manually turned on. This has been the install from hell. I'm so frustrated I'm almost ready to pay some asshole to fix it. FML

 

Did you go with stainless steel lines? I'm going to do this soon. What is the "hole cover seal"?

I wouldn’t add grease. They come with enough grease to last their lifetime. Adding more can be detrimental
